Saved our lives today!

Ordered this on Thursday, arrived on Saturday & it saved our lives on Tuesday. It was zipped in my backpack on the floor by the front door & it went off. (26 then up to 28.) My dad has a gas fireplace on & was cooking & baking all afternoon. We opened the doors & windows, went outside & it went down to 0. Now I'm buying another one for me & leaving this for my dad. I guess the meter he has from the fire department is set to a higher limit. I love this unit.

The use of ventless propane heaters is becoming popular with RVs and is even endorsed by some manufacturers. While theoretically these heaters (like Mr. Heater Buddy) have their own sensor and shutoff, I am uncomfortable trusting my life to just that. This tiny sensor/alarm is perfect for my needs; I have installed it just below sleeping level and above the level of the heater, so it should warn me of any CO buildup that might somehow be missed by the heater. It is nicely engineered, solid, and the display is easy to read. Operation is trivial: you turn it on, give it three minutes to calibrate, and you are good-to-go. It uses two CR2032 batteries, which the manual says should last 8-12 months with continuous operation. If all goes as expected, I should never get an alarm, but who wants to take that chance? (An expert would have to weigh in as to whether this is appropriate for larger trailers and RVs, but I can't think why it wouldn't be.)

Unlike UL threshold monitors, this one begins registering and alerts me to the presence of dangerous CO almost immediately. Also, I use it everywhere, not just in my automobile. I recently discovered that one of our ranch vehicles had an exhaust leak when this monitor began alarming. My husband is an attorney whose practice includes representing people with brain injuries from exposure to CO and many of his clients are poisoned while staying in hotels. We keep this monitor with us when we travel. It is small, easy to read, easy to use and easy to pack.

I am now using this device both in the home and the car. I did test it in a CO test chamber with an industrial control detector and a fixed amount of CO gas. It ramped up and alarmed as promised in all test runs. It will alarm much faster than standard units and is well worth the price. I strongly recommend it!
