I'm planning on keeping chocolate cool on a road trip. It's compact and light. I wish there were a digital readout, I'm thinking of getting an external thermometer. I like it so far (testing it inside the house)
Practical and safe

In response to concerns voiced by other buyers re: overheating of the plug and wires, I did two things. First I purchased a separate cigarette outlet plug that appeared likely to be more robust than the original. I shortened the long (inadequate gauge) extension wire and attached the new plug. Used the unit daily on three-week road trip. Plug never overheated or melted. No problem with shorter (small gauge) extension wire either. When I initially plugged the modified unit in, there was a sharp "crack" sound and a puff of smoke form the fan outlet on the front of the unit. Don't know what that was from. On chance that it was a polarity issue, I reversed the wires and the unit worked -- albeit with two issues. First, the switch direction was reversed: heat cooled and cold heated! Easily accommodated. And the light did not function. Both could be attributable to an initial polarity issue (cracking sound and smoke), but they did not appear to affect the rest of the unit's operation.
We pre-cooled our drinks and other items and used small pre-frozen freezer bags designed for use in coolers to help keep items cold. We also kept the unit cool overnight by periodically turning it on using an AC adapter and running for several hour periods (but not continuously). Ran continuously more or less for 6-8 hours in the car. Kept things colder than an insulated cooler would.
Satisfied that "safety" concerns can be addressed. But recommend attention to polarity issue if you switch to a new plug.
Hopefully Wagan will improve the quality of its plug and use heavier gauge wire in its extension cord to avoid the need for the modifications I made.

Great to keep beverages cold on road trip

Bought this to keep a few beverages cold on a 2 day road trip - and it worked great - I was pleasantly surprised - have no used it on heat setting but the cool definately kept cold beverages very chilled in 100+ degree weather.
Excellent little fridge

Keeps my drinks ice cold all day long in the sun. It is amost silent when running, just a faint whir of a fan is all I can hear, and that is drowned out by road noise when driving. I love my fridge.
Lifesaver

This has been a lifesaver for my husband. He is on the road for work during the day. This has kept his lunch cool all day. Even on Oregon's hotest days.
