Much better than the Netgear R6700 with parental controls and overall speed
Asim✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 23, 2023
Had a Netgear Nighthawk R6700 Before, for a couple years... bought for the Parental Control features and Range it promised. The "Disnep My Cirle" Parental Controls that is comes bundled with was Managed by the My Circle Servers so the overall internet speed was severely affected... like 50% less (tested) speeds. Then you have to pay for the better features of the My Circle App. The range also was horrible... had to depend on an Apple AirPort express AP Set up on the Upper Floor to provide wifi to most of my house... only the room next door to the router got a decent speed...

So far with the ASUS AX3000 I have had no speed reduction with parental controls on and it's all Free with more advanced features and security options. Few, but a bit of adult contend have been seen to slip throught the security settings on the Teen Profile but more or less it's blocking all Adult Websites I tested... also there is a scheduling option that turns off Internet Access at a certain time (another paid feature on My Circle).

The interface is graphically pleasing and Rather Futuristic looking... I give it a 5/5 !
Some features I missed was with My Circle: I was notified every time a new device Joined my wifi network, also was notified each time the internet went down... take note ASUS !

The wireless range is much better as it's supposed to cover 3000 sq.ft. (Netgear 1,500 sq ft.)

I generally am quite Satisfied with this Upgrade... it's well worth it !
Great for 2.5GB Connectivity BUT...

I was considering running some additional cable Cat6/7 drops so I could get a 2.5GB hard wired connection for my eero 6E pro mesh node.
After doing some research I opted instead to go with this adapter as I wouldn't need to run any cable through the wall as where the mesh node was located was right directly to an already existing COAX outlet.
When it works IT WORKS as I will get the full throughput of my Comcast 1Gb service.
I do have it throttle down to a 100Mb on occasion and the only way I can get it back to the full 2.5Gb throughput is to power cycle the adapter closest to the 2.5Gb switch and everything works.
It would be ideal if there was a web interface that I could login and see what speed was being negotiated. It's because of that lack of a web gui that I rated it at 4 stars as other MOCA adapters in the same category do have a web gui that allow you to see these types of details.
I have no issues whatsoever with the performance...when it connects at the full 2.5GB speed. I'm not seeing any decreases in speed or throttling down on any of my other devices that are also connected at 2.5Gb it's just unique to this MOCA adapter.
Weird behavior with AiMesh, but worked fine in AP mode

Bought this to connected to my primary router to extend coverage throughout the house. When initially setup as an AiMesh node (with ethernet backhaul), my speeds capped out at around 300Mbits and I was having weird delays on some of my smart home devices. I changed the router to just function as an access point and then I was getting the full speed I'd expect and no more weird delays.

So as a secondary router to extend coverage it works fine, but if you have an ethernet connection to your primary router, don't bother with AiMesh and just run it as an access point.
They work great

I use four of them in a AImesh network. This sets up easily and works great with a couple of caveats. They all need to be on the same firmware version and no mixed hardware. I have had issues with both. Tried to use an ASUS RT-AX1800S as a 4th node with three RT-AX3000s. It did not work well, would constantly disconnect. Replaced it with another RT-AX3000 and all is well.

Asus makes a full line of routers. They all use the same software so the features ar the same across the line. The more expensive ones have different and more capable hardware.

The expensive routers are advertised to be faster. But what they measure is the total speed of all the clients. The bigger routers are like buying 10 dump trucks. You can move 10X more gravel per hour if you own ten trucks but the gravel does not move faster. So when you choose an Asus router think about how many streaming devices you own and use at the same time. This router easily handles a grammar running Twich and two TV sets plus general internet use. The faster routers do NOT let you stream a two hour move in one hour, that is silly, they let you steam more movies at the same time, up to the limit of your Internet connection speed from you ISP.

If you need more than this you have two options (1) move up the line to a faster router or (2) buy two routers. With Asus, any two (or more) routers can be combined into a "mesh" system. Place one router on each floor of the house and connect them with Ethernet. (Ethernet works MUCH better than a wireless interconnect). You will get better coverage and total bandwidth with 2 or 3 of these routers then you would be one more expensive router. The software included in every Asus router makes this easy. You can start with one router and then buy another if needed. Having more routes distributed around the house keeps the signal strength up as your device will find the closest router. So I recommend these mid-range routers over one more expensive one.

When you buy the second router you can use an identical router or move up or down the line depending on what you need. This is a midrange router that has a good performance-to-cost ratio and as said is expandable if you simply buy more of the same.
