Yes, it's in stereo..other than the FM

If you listen to AM/MW radio this is the reproduction "box" You want. Better than average AM performance, and much better than the ION "Street Rocker"/"Crosley" clone of it.
FM is as good as any DSP radio on a chip, though mono. Yes, it's a DSP with an analog dial. That is to say very good.
The SW bands are average for this type of device..it works, and it's fun to play with, but it's not going to replace a "real" shortwave radio. And..
Tuning is a bit touchy as the tuning thumb-wheel is directly connected to the tuning cap, but it's not hard to get the hang of it.
The tape deck is the same mechanism that's in almost everything today. Not the best, but it gets the job done. Yes, it has a stereo head and records and plays in stereo. If you're looking to record high quality tapes this is not the device for you, but I am sure that you already knew that.
The chip recorder/player works just fine, and yes it is stereo. It records in 192Kbs WAV (yes, WAV) making it a much better recorder than others of it's ilk, though it's not the best voice recorder as there's one mike, and it's very much your average mic..I'm sure that you weren't expecting this to be a field recorder anyway.
It scans though a track when holding down the > keys, and it remembers where you where in a track when you shut it off or went into another function instead of starting back up at the beginning of the file.
The sound quality is quite good for something that only runs on 4 D cells. It won't blast the whole block, but it's quite respectable for what it is. Yes, THE TWEETERS ARE FAKE, nut that's no big deal as you really don't need them with 4" speakers anyway. If anything I'd say that they would be too much.
Oddly enough the bass knob actually is a bass control and not a treble control disguised as a "tone" knob.
The VU meter (flashing lights) isn't spot on nor does it show the left and right levels interdependently, but it is a sort of real VU meter, thus does not change with the volume control. It will and does give you a good enough idea of the level so you can adjust the volume on whatever you are feeding into the aux jack to optimize recording...a major plus. Do a couple of recordings to test the meter, and you get the hang of it quickly. On mine overload is the last LED the first green (yes, they got it backwards) seems to be just under 0dB/100%. You mileage may very.
They actually got this one right...for what it is.
Good Bluetooth player with some boombox functionality

I also own the smaller Riptunes boombox that's sold here on Amazon. I bought this one in hopes that the cassette recording capability would be better than the other one, but unfortunately it seems it's not. More on that below.

The AM, FM, shortwave radio works credibly well, with good to very good reception on all bands. The biggest limitation is the tuner, which is a thumb wheel on top, rather than a knob as you typically see on units of this size. This makes it a little hard to pinpoint weak stations, but with a steady hand you can manage. Strong stations are no problem.

Bluetooth works well and pairs right up. If you put in a micro SD card or USB drive, the unit will automatically default to that when it is in "BT/TF USB" mode. Sound quality through Bluetooth and USB is this unit's strongest suit. Put some good music through it and it sounds very pleasant. And, it gets nice and loud, so you could play it at the picnic or in the backyard.

Playing cassettes works fine. They're muddier sounding than Bluetooth/SD/USB but, you know, they're cassettes. The problem comes if you try to record on this: The recorded audio sounds too "hot" and distorted, as if the automatic level control is set too high. Exactly the same problem as the other Riptunes unit. You can get a halfway passable tape recording out of it if you record a Bluetooth source and experiment with different volume settings on your connected device to find which one will give you the clearest audio, but even at best the recording you get is nothing to write home about. But, if all you want to do is play tapes you're good to go. Just as an FYI, the only currently-available boombox I know of that'll make good quality cassette recordings is the Sony CFD-S70. It's about the same price as this one on Amazon. It lacks Bluetooth/SD/USB capability but it has an Aux input so you can run other audio through it - and record it on tape if you want - that way. The Sony also has a CD (w/MP3 format) player and this Riptunes unit doesn't have a CD player, so it's just a trade-off based on what you want.

So the four-star is an average. If you want to make your own 80s-esque mix tapes, forget it, this gets one star for recording. But I give it four stars for radio and tape playing, five stars for Bluetooth/USB/SD playing.

I really like the fact that I can play cassettes on this. I hated to get rid of them and now I won't have to. I really wish this boom box had better bass, but I can't take away a star for that, because it still has nice sound. I just miss the bass that the retro boom boxes had. I don't use the short wave radio but I use the Bluetooth feature a lot. This was a good purchase and I would purchase this item again.
It works !
