Great travel router
Brian w.✓ Verified Purchase•August 26, 2023
I was in the process of building a raspberry pi travel router but with the lack of wifi antenna options that would work as an AP, I decided to go out on a limb and just purchase this little toy for my travel needs. If you are anything like me then you do not want to connect to a public network for security reasons. I picked this up and configured it at home in about a half hour. Even configured my VPN on the router itself which worked flawlessly. I setup the adguard that is a built in application with this router to block ads on whichever public network I connect to. I didnt think I would be bringing this thing with me everywhere but now I do. It is an essential backpack item with me wherever I go since it is so tiny. I should have spent a little more on the more expensive version but for the price of this router you just can't go wrong. If you want a cheap and reliable travel router then this is the one for you.
One of the best Amazon purchase I’ve ever made

After about almost a year with this product, I have zero cons about it, only positive. Here are some of the use cases for me for this product.
1: portable WiFi repeater with lan connection
2: Wonderful tool for traveling, it's like using your own WiFi in hotels
3: supports 2.4g WiFi for smart home use even when your router only supports 5g
There is other use cases for this product but these are just some. For the price of this product, it's a beast!

Power in a small package

I'm copying most of my review for the 6G version, because most of it applies to this device. I bought this version first as a router for my MIL's apartment, and loved it so much I got the other version for myself!
This is a great hardware execution running OpenWRT - a great piece of software. It's an amazingly small device, and because of the USB-C port can be powered by a laptop - I love not having to travel with yet another special power cord. It easily handled serving the WiFi for a 2-br apartment. It's sturdy and well built, and I can't emphasize the great choice of software it uses; it's versatile and powerful.
I *love* this product line.

Simple, fast, cheap, slightly inflexible.

This is advertised as a portable privacy focused router. It comes with a heavily customized openWRT interface, but under the hood it's just pretty standard openWRT. It has features to turn on and off privacy features such as TOR with a physical switch on the side. I think if you bought with its intended use case in mind it would work pretty well.
I didn't get it to be a portable router, instead I want it to live on top of a book shelf and act as a wireless access point. The simple interface does have a button that sets the router up for this purpose, but not much else in the way of access point configuration. There is the option to install Luci (the standard openWRT interface), but I found the co-existence of two interfaces for editing the configuration files to be a little bit confusing and a tad disconcerting; who's really calling the shots here? I ended up ssh-ing into the router and setting things up from there, which worked out fine.
So I think its a great idea for a router, but I think it falls a little short in the execution of its user interface.

GUI is pretty straight forward once you find it. I live in the middle of nowhere and verizon doesnt support whole home wifi in my area. Broadband is not available. I use a wifi puck and needed a way to connect it to some non-wifi capable devices. Using this as a bridge to my puck was the solution. I had previously tried using range extenders as bridges with horrifying bottlenecks. This offers full speeds and is compact. It comes with a charger, and one flat noodle ethernet cable. The cable is garbage, but odds are if you need the router, you likely have better cables.
