Good printing experience - mini air filters are hit and miss
Bud P✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 30, 2023
The media could not be loaded. Enjoying the Saturn 2 immensely, after coming from the mars 3 pro and the Saturn 8K the Saturn 2 prints just as reliably as the Mars 3 pro but with a larger build volume. The Saturn 8K seems like an upgraded original Saturn to me and missing the Cob Light source and the Cob light source is the one you want - I have had nothing but trouble with the Saturn 8K and nothing but success with the Mars3 pro and Saturn 2 aside from the included mini air purifiers.

The purifiers are fantastic (when they work) and take a big bite out of that resin smell while printing but so far I've only had 1 mini air filter work that was included in all 3 of these machines! lol its probably just bad luck but the 1st one sounded like a dying cat when starting a print and the filter included with the Saturn 2 doesn't even work and I think the last filter worked but it was kind of having a tough time in the bigger enclosure of the Saturn 8K so I imagine 2 would be better in a larger machine. The included video shows the machine in operation and no working filter fan - Dealing with Elegoo customer service over the fan now and they wanted video evidence of it not working but the help system on amazon didnt allow my MP4 file into the chat system so here ya go :D

I'm only a day or two into operating the Saturn 2 but so far I have complete confidence in its printing ability and ease of operation (especially if youve taken the time to watch a video or two). I really enjoyed the Mars 3 pro aside from the splashing issues it felt reliable and could be a workhorse of a printer for you and I feel the same way about the Saturn 2 and no splashing issues. I really wanted to like the Saturn 8K I really did but it just didnt hit the mark for me - I really think it was the difference in the light source.

I am enjoying the resin 3d printing a lot and plan on sticking with it and I dont think you could go wrong with the Elegoo brand resin printers especially if you are just getting started.
Updated - (After effort was made to make things right.) Frustrating experience
John Prunty✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 26, 2023
-Updated- After my experience I moved on and did not expect to hear from Elegoo. I was surprised when they contacted me and stated that they wanted to make things right. They sent me a Saturn and compensation resin and I told them I would give it one more try. I went through the set up process, leveled the bed, tested the LCD, and tried out the printer. After my previous failures I was able to print the Rook Test prints to satisfaction. I notified their product support staff and am posting this here. While my previous experience was bad, I am truly appreciative that Elegoo sought me out after the fact and went out of their way to make things right. They could have easily left me behind and move on to the next customer. I am going to change my Overall rating from 2 Stars to 4 Stars because of their effort to make things right. I am withholding only one star because of the previous experience. After experiencing their product there a a few features I find superior to other brands and I feel I should mention them. First the plate is angled allowing resin to drip off more cleanly as opposed to some flat plates that allow the resin to pool at the top (makes for more cleaning). This may sound like a simple feature with little value, however anyone spending a lot of time printing knows just how much time it can take to clean afterwards. Second- the resin basin fits more exactly with the guides and the screws that hold the resin basin are more aligned. This makes for a clean and easy removal of the basin with a sure fit to reinstall it, another time saving feature that helps protect the LCD. Third, when purchasing a new product from Elegoo they provide more of the basic materials to get started like tools and accessories.
With the Saturn you will find a small "care package" consisting of a few gloves, masks, filters, tools and accessories to get started. (Just don't forget the resin). I hope this review helps not only potential buyers but Elegoo. Below you will find my original review, unaltered. Thank you.

I hate writing a bad review, I give the company a few chances to make things right before I do so. Unfortunately I have to do so with this product. I was very excited to purchase this product and eager to see my creations come to life! I read all of the instructions, watched hours of videos and every day I would have failed prints. Granted there is a huge learning curve to resin printing and most of us will go through many trial and errors! I noticed that all of my prints were experiencing a similar trait, half of the print was pristine, and half of it was warped and striated. No matter what print, what orientation, what settings, every single print had this uniform error. I tried other slicing software, I tried stock and varied exposure settings and I made sure to update the firmware. Frustrated, I contacted Elegoo's service tech and explain that I had gone through 1.5 liters of resin (at $34-$40 per liter) and sent them pictures of the problem described. The tech asked me to send them the chitubox files and that they wanted me to be happy, so they would send me some replacement resin. I immediately sent the requested files and a couple days later the tech responding stating that he did not have chitubox software at home and he would get back to me after "holiday". I found this peculiar as, A) chitubox is a free program anyone can get and use. Why would the tech for a company that uses this and distributes it with its product not have it? and B) why would a tech on holiday respond only to say Ill help you after holiday (is there only one tech?) I realized then my window to return/exchange the printer was rapidly closing and several days had past without any company interaction. I wrote them again, stating that I am going to exchange the printer and did that. Yesterday I received my new Elegoo Saturn, went through the entire setup process only to discover that the LCD plate is not functioning. I received the typical form letter from Elegoo stating that I would be getting a bottle of resin soon and please take a moment to write a review. I received the bottle of resin, however it was basic resin and half the size (500 ml). When I made my first purchase I also bought the wash and cure station, two 1k liter bottles of Elegoo ABS-like Resin, two mini Elegoo air purifiers. So in all over 750.00 in Elegoo merchandise. So once again I have to pack up the Saturn and return it. However this time I contacted amazon and got a refund instead. I am going to spend a bit more money and try the AnyCubic instead. I just wanted to share this review as this has been an overall very frustrating experience. I wanted to give them 1 star, however the packaging was excellent as they took great care to make sure the product was safe in transit so I have them an extra star for that. Considering every single print I attempted came up striated and warped on half of the model I gave 1 star. The tech support made the whole situation worse, I wish it could have been better because I really wanted this to work. SO one star for that. Lastly I did give 5 stars for the touch screen because that feature worked perfectly. I hope this review helps not only the future buyers, but also Elegoo fine tune their product and their customer relations.
Almost 100% success rate. Unbelievable!

I've tried almost every 3D resume printer out there as I run a business selling custom toy parts. I've gone through 10 resin printers in my lifetime, and it seems to be Elegoo is always the one that I always turned to. I had their dlp, mars 2, saturn 2, and now their saturn 3 ultra and all the machines just seem to work for me, with their Saturn 3 Ultra being the best one to date.
Upon arrival I used my old saturn 2 resin profiles and didn't expect the 1st print to work, but lo and behold my first print printed! Usually when I get a new printer I calibrate it and test it a lot before I do a serious print, but I took a risk with the saturn 3 and just went for it and was completely surprised how it printed successfully from an old profile of the saturn 2.
Also, I absolutely love the wifi that this machine brings, and gone are the days of using a USB to transfer filed back and forth saving me a lot of time
Lastly prints have all come out super clean and looks stellar.
If you are the fence on what 3d resin printer to get, get the saturn 3 ultra, you'll love it!
Temperamental and absolutely needs a heater in my environment

I have a love/hate relationship with Elegoo printers. I love certain aspect of them like transition layers and the ability to alter exposure settings directly on the printer mid print. On the other hand I absolutely hate the ball socket build plate leveling (so easy to knock out of alignment) and their inability to print reliably out of the box in my room temperature environment.

I fought tooth and nail with my original model Saturn trying track down why I couldn't get it to print reliably. It took me about a month of troubleshooting everything I could think of to work out that the issues I was experiencing were temperature related and that the printer would require a heater and thermostat unit to function. This Saturn S immediately showed the same issues out of the box. I don't know what it is about my environment and this line of printers that causes such and issue. Ambient room temperature in my print area averages 78-80°F so it's fairly warm compared to where some people are printing. Regardless of that, I absolutely have to get the internal temperature of both of my Saturns to a minimum of 27°C and maintain that temperature for 30 minutes for them to print reliably with no fails at the start of the print. It's an annoying issue that requires an extra amount of money and work that none of my other printers in the same environment require.

I really want to like Elegoo printers but at most I seem to just be capable of tolerating them. I'm not displeased with this printer at the moment, just annoyed that it requires extra equipment to run effectively.

I really wish Elegoo had included a small heater unit with this printer instead of the worthless air purifier it comes with. I notice zero difference running this printer with the built in air purifier and my older Saturn that doesn't have one. That air purifier is an absolute waste of space in a printer that already has a minimal amount of room in it.

This may well be my last Elegoo purchase, while there are some things I really like about this line of printers I see better and more reliable results from my Anycubic machines than I've experienced with anything from Elegoo.
So Far, Entirely Worth It

This is a "first 24 hours review".

First and foremost, I took Reddit's advice and, right out the box I retightened all visible screws (luckily it gives you the tools you need on hand).

I calibrated the stand three times. Mostly because I wasn't sure I had done it right - due to terrible Chinese translated instructions that leave ALOT to interpretation.

The interface - while misleading in the instructions - is actually really easy to use once you get used to it. It does not require a computer or app - just a flash drive. It will take some messing around and being terrified you broke it.

When you are calibrating: DONT WORRY. You probably won't break it. Every step of the way - because of terrible instructions - I thought I was breaking stuff. I wasn't.

When you hit print for the rook: the stand will sink into the resin ink. This is normal. I freaked out and thought I broke the whole thing. No. It is supposed to do this. It will submerge itself entirely in the resin.

The rooks came out PERFECT. Really excited to update this review with custom prints.
