Just the right size for disposing of kitchen scraps so they don't sit in the trash can loose. I found free bags to use. The small thin plastic bags you find in the grocery produce section fit perfectly. When you bring home bananas, apples, or meat packages, save the bags for this canister.

I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could. Everything is as it should be and I think the extra piece that keeps the bag in place is genius. However, the picture's color of the GREEN bin is incredibly inaccurate. The actual color is much more of an olive color. I originally thought "baby poop green" when I saw it. However, I decided to keep it because it otherwise is excellent and fits the needs. Think of it as an "olive green" color and you'll be spot on. It's not a BAD color, just not what I originally expected and wanted.
