We have a lot of invasive russian olive and we use this to trim the brush. If cuts 1" stems with ease. The folding extension pole is a little wobbly and hard to hold extended out. I dropped it and did break off the retaining tabs for the pruning head. I contacted Tovia and they promptly send me a new pair of case sides for the pruning head. Their customer service was terrific

Bought this after seeing a you-tube video on pruning peach trees where the guy had a similar electric shear. I bought it with a 6 foot extension pole to allow reasonable topping of peach trees without having to use a ladder. Worked pretty well for doing that. Then I started using the shears whenever I needed to cut some larger branches up close where I normally used loppers. These shears, being one-handed, are so much faster than loppers, and their capacity (like 1.25 inches) is more than my loppers can easily do without a lot of effort. As a result, I almost never use my loppers, and these have become my go-to pruning tool for anything larger that pruning small stems. After a full day of pruning the battery is still at 70%...so one battery, which is all I have, has worked great...never needed a charge during a pruning session.
My one issue is that they seem to be pretty dangerous...could take a finger off in an instant if you aren't careful. I turn up my safety attentiveness a lot when using them...and would be a bit reluctant to give them to a child or less attentive person to use. They have a number of safety features, like turning off after a short period of no use. One needs to get use to the various ways of turning them on again...but I think these safety features are well worth the minor learning curve. So far, I'm extremely pleased. have bought two...one for ranch and one for home use.

Who is Tovia? Never heard of them, but they make a great hand held battery operated pruner (with optional extension pole). This device can effortlessly cut any branch up to 1.6 inches with a slight pull of a trigger. Its unbelievable how many cuts can be made over short period of time.. However, if you do want to know, just check the display.
The Tovia can be used either with or without the pole. If you need the extension pole, the unit gets a little heavy to hold up in the air after a while. I am 80 years old, and I did take a break or two. But I was able to easily control the 7.5 foot extension while reaching the higher limbs in my Crepe Myrtle tree. This was important to me since I'm not comfortable on ladders anymore.
My Tovia costs $220 which is a lot of money when purchasing a pruner. But, you will enjoy the power and it's amazing ease of use. In my opinion, if you like to work in the yard and need to prune half inch to 1.6 inch branches, then buy it. If you're just pruning flowers or small diameter plants then maybe not. The biggest problem with this tool, is the pickup of the volume of branches you will cut when your job is complete. Although, this even helps you 'cut down' branches in order to put into trash bag. So far, I have put 900+ cuts on my unit, and the battery still reads 85%. Overall, I am quite pleased with it.
