They keep my feet really warm.
They keep my feet really warm.
Thick heavy pair of socks that heat a small zone on your feet
BearCub✓ Verified Purchase•July 7, 2023
Pros:
-Comes with the batteries and charger. Both batteries charged by one plug.
-When worn, power, control, and socks are all self-contained
-The socks themselves are thick and pretty warm; you may need to adjust your shoes on account of the thickness
-They do keep you from getting frostbite but they're either too hot or not warm enough
Cons:
-Expensive
-An in-between high and medium setting would be really really nice
-The part that heats only heats a very small zone on top of your feet near your toes
-Handwash only
-Difficult to change the power settings when tucked into the pouch at the top of the sock
So I want to start out with simply this. It works. I wanted to keep my feet from freezing when outside. I like to hang around the firepit with friends, especially when its cold, but the fire doesn't do a good job of hitting my feet, so they're always cold. Enter the heated socks solution.
When combined with my GoreTex hiking boots (Salomon), my feet do not freeze. They're either uncomfortably hot (on high setting) or they don't feel "warm" per se just not freezing (on medium) but not much in between. High is a little scary, kind of like when the water is turned just a little too hot and you turn it down to feel more at ease. Medium is curious though... that the whole time I'm out there I'll think, "they're not working or something." But once I'm inside and the shoes come off, I notice that my feet are very slightly sweaty in the exact spot that the heating element is. And my feet don't sweat.
The small batteries that come with are easy enough to operate and self-explanatory when it comes to plugging in and charging. They don't come charged so do be sure to do a full charge cycle when you receive them. The batteries when plugged in fit into a small pocket near the cuff. You won't feel them when they're tucked in. Problem is, you also can't get to them when you're wearing heavy pants in the cold. So if you need to change the settings you'll need to either fumble around and hope you didn't turn them off, or just take your pants down to reach the batteries that are at calf height.
All in all, would I buy them again? Probably will look for a different option, and mainly because of the not so effective placement of the heating element. Its a convenient design in the sense that the batteries are small and the entire thing is self-contained with no wires hanging out. But not being able to reach the controls is inconvenient as is the large gap of heat between high and medium. If the heating element was more optimally placed or more widely distributed, I'd have much less to complain about. Despite saying I would look for a different option, I won't be until these are no longer of any use. As I said earlier, they do work; my feet do not freeze, I'm just looking for "better." Whatever that may be.

these socks are ok. but the heat is mostly on the top of your foot. not the toes. they did not make a difference when it is super cold outside but for fall night walks theyll do just fine.
