I bought this to replace the plastic version I had. The plastic version lasted almost a year, but then it would occasionally start leaking, leaving a large pool of water, and wasting water. The plastic version also got dirty very quickly. So far, the stainless steel version is AMAZING! The construction of the basin will almost certainly guarantee no leaking. It's also a lot quieter. I highly recommend this!

I've had 2 cats for about 2 years and have gone through 4 or 5 fountains in that time. The water gets so nasty so quickly in many but this one can easily go a week without changing the water. When it's time to change the water, I just put it in the dishwasher and it comes out clean and sanitized. Love the stainless steel over plastic. It's truly the quietest fountain I've ever had too. Everyone claims a quiet motor but the water drip sounds drive me crazy. This fountain does NOT make a single sound.
