This rice cooker is a glorious machine.
I used to buy rice cookers from box stores. They were the kind where you put the rice and water in the bin, push down on the tab, and wait for the tab to pop up. Little better than a toaster. I bought about one every nine months because they failed so often.
Then, with Christmas money in 2011, I bought this machine, and my life changed. This thing is smarter than I am. It has always done a phenomenal job through all the heavy use it's received in the past five and a half years across four residences. It has settings for several different types of rice, and I've used them all to great success. Cleaning it is a snap. It even has the most adorable little musical tones to let you know when the rice is ready.
If a meteor ever strikes my house and wrecks my Zojirushi rice cooker - that's the only scenario I can imagine that would stop this little masterpiece - I'll immediately get a replacement from Zojirushi. They've earned my loyalty for life. And when you buy yours, do yourself a favor and sign up for their monthly email newsletter when you register your device. Having a japanese mother, we had sushi rice with every meal, every day. So having a good rice cooker was essential. I personally have never owned a japanese rice cooker like my mother did. I've always used a cheap standard rice cooker that you can get at most retail stores ie: Target, Kmart, Walmart. I never could get myself to pay so much money for a rice cooker like this one. Well, after so many years later, I finally decided that I was going to do it. I know that Zojirushi is an excellent product so when I saw this listing here on Amazon, I went for it. I am so happy that I did. The item arrived today and it's a beautiful cooker. I love everything about it. I just finished making my first batch of sushi rice for dinner tonight and it's PERFECT! You can certainly tell a big difference in the rice. How could I have gone so long using a cheap standard one is beyond me. Never again. I'm so very happy and satisfied with my purchase.

For almost 20 years I've been using a standard rice cooker, 13.5 years cooking mostly Filipino and Japanese food. When I came upon the Zojirushi rice cooker my first thought was, why so expensive? I started researching the best rice cookers which led me back to this product. My curiosity got the best of me and so I bought it. Now, if you're like me, one who appreciates the perfect sticky rice, then you'll fall in love with this rice cooker. I couldn't believe the difference. It's the perfect stickiness and I cannot help but think it tastes better too. I'd be shocked if anyone would rate this less than 5 stars. If you're new to rice, I like Nishiki rice which can also be purchased on Amazon. Hope this helps. It was worth every penny.

I bought this for one reason but use it for another. I was at my Daughter's Home and she set this up the night before with Steel-cut oats. In the morning a wonderful bowl of hot, oatmeal was right there for me, whenever I woke up. I love oatmeal in the morning but often don't have time to fix it. This amazing appliance fixed that forever. I later saw her planning rice for supper and, again, had the Zojirushi set. We had amazing rice, ready when we were. So this not only does both rice and oatmeal to perfection. It does it with very simple set-up. It takes up very little space, is easy to clean up, has a retractable cord and stores in a small space. (if that last one wasnt true I would toss something else out to make room for this wonderfully, simply applicance.

This machine works great. I LOVE it ! I have never used a rice cooker before and thought it was another useless kitchen appliance. I have been wanting to eat oatmeal in the mornings, but I do not have the time to stir and make sure it doesn't burn on the stove (which is normally what happens when I cook oatmeal).
I used rolled oats with 1 cup oats and 2 1/4 cups water. It came out too firm. Do over. Then I used 1 cup oats and almost 3 cups water. Oatmeal perfection !
I LOVE that it is so easy to clean and the inner pot is nonstick. This machine is very easy to use, and the directions are easily understood. Definitely a great purchase !
