This was really the worst Locatelli I've ever ingested
Brat1111•September 16, 2017
This was really the worst Locatelli I've ever ingested. First, I had it for about a week prior to opening (in my refrigerator). When I took it out, it was slimy all over the outside as if it had been frozen and defosted with googy, gummy gunk all over.. The inside was great -- pleasant tasting with a mild and creamy taste. It's a shame for real that so much had to be cut off and discarded. I am from Sicily and have eaten many a good Locatelli -- even at local Italian stores. I thougt this would cheaper to buy in buld than purchasing in-store by the pound. Mistake! There's a saying in Sicilian that everybody that understands English will underatand: The cheap comes out expensive.

Just received my first order - used to buy Locatelli Pecorino Romano cheese locally and was always satisfied - this 3 lb block came in and i've never seen Pecorino Romano exuding or sweating oil like this block was - in all the years i've bought it (i'm italian ) it's always been real dry. This stuff was sweating oil like a race horse. Wiped it with a paper towel, wrapped it with a double lay of clean paper towels and then with saran wrap - within 24 hours the papertowels were soaking wet with oil.
Taste was sharp, which is what i expected but still not sure why it's wet with oil. I've seen balls of provolone cheese sweat oil like this, to the point it shrinks 25% of it's size before it stops "sweating oil".
I'll probably stay with the Parmigiano Reggiano on the next order

I can't find this locally and so glad to find it here. Thank you for allowing me to bring my favorite Romano cheese into my home. The smell alone brings back so many memories of my childhood.
Salty & Soft

It is a bit too salty, and very much too soft & oily for grating
If you can't get it locally....

Great cheese. I used some grated with panko to coat some veal. Fried em up and they were great!
I did find it locally at my Italian specialty store.
But if you can't get it locally, do try this one!
