I read just about every review on Amazon for this cage before buying. I was a little cautious as it said "typically ships in 1 to 2 months" and I almost bought another cage w/ Prime shipping that was twice the money. Glad I didn't. I got the cage in about 5 days. The manufacturer must read the reviews here because literally every complaint I read has been addressed with the product I got. List of items I saw were fixed;
1. The cage is double boxed and I feel very well packed. There was a tear in the outer box but none of the parts inside were damaged.
2. I thought the instructions were actually very well done. Maybe they've revised them because I had zero problems building this myself. Just look at their detailed, exploded views to make sure you're using the right piece. Make sure you get the top and the middle right because the middle floor is made for a ramp attachment.
3. The ramps are plastic and the mid platforms are plastic too. I thought I read reviews that they used to be wire.
4. I didn't notice it came with the tray on the bottom. Very nice.
5. I thought overall build quality was excellent. I actually thought as I was building it that it almost seemed like it wasn't right that I paid so little for it. I don't know how they can weld and powder coat this whole thing for the money they're selling it for. It's a bargain.
6. Our chin doesn't seem bothered by the mid level wire floor or the base floor being wire at all. It helps keep the waste in the bottom tray instead of in the cage under her feet. Only challenge I see w/ the wire mesh floors is keeping the timothy hay where she can get to it. I think we need a hay bin.
7. I didn't realize it came with a hammock! It's shown in the product image but I wasn't expecting it so that was a nice surprise!
8. It's a small thing but I really like the brushed nickel finish on the door closing hardware.
9. Casters seem like decent quality. We'll see how they hold up.
Overall I'm beyond impressed and glad I saved some money with this cage. I highly highly recommend this to anyone on the fence about it. It's a bargain for sure.

Great cage for the price!

If you have read a lot of reviews on this cage, like I did, you'll know the little things that are a downside to this cage. Only the right doors open and set up would be hard to do alone, (at least in my opinion.) I've had the cage about 2 weeks and my mischief seems to be very happy! Plenty of room for them to run about. I was worried about how big this cage was, I just got a young boy rat. I was pleased to see that he didn't just slip right through the bars! Currently I have 4 male rats, 2 of which are very large, that live in this cage. I think 5 might be not be roomy enough, at least for large male rats. The cage itself is very nice looking and eyecatching. I would definitely recommend this cage for anyone wanting something big and nice but on a budget.
like double doors on the upper and lower platforms that ...

The cage arrived quickly, right on schedule. After reading the reviews I had visions of the box arriving tattered, with pieces strewn all over the truck they delivered it in... it was completely intact and all pieces were accounted for.
I decided to put it together when it arrived, instead of waiting for someone else to get home for an extra set of hands. It would've been easier if the directions were a little more clear (totally could've been me though!) and probably if I had waited on an extra pair of hands to help. Overall, it took a little over an hour, and it appears to be structurally sound. The locks on the doors work well, my youngest child (8) couldn't get it unlatched at first, a ferret might struggle, chinchillas- really no chance. There were a few design changes I would've made, if I was a cage designer... like double doors on the upper and lower platforms that open on both sides for easier cleaning, placing of the toys, feeders, wheel, and all other chinchilla wants, not needs... that being said, it is still easier to clean than our prior cage. I knew that it didn't do that before I ever purchased it. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps!!

Need Some Work Before Good for Chinchillas

I bought 2 cages for my 2 chinchillas a year ago. They are not of the same sex so I have to keep them separated. I used 1/8" hardware mesh cloth to make poop guard. Home depot pine wood for the platforms, hay boxes, swings, and for covering the wire of the higher floor. PVC elbow & tee for the tubes. 6" x 6" ceramic wall tiles on the lower floor but left the center uncovered. So I can gather the poops to the middle and let them fall into a storage box beneath the wires -- only 30min clearing every week :-)
About the cage:
Pros:
1. large space with good price
2. 2 layers that can be easily separated. Good for introducing new friends.
3. motile. Easy to move them and clear the floor.
4. fun for DIY lovers to design and decorate the cage
cons:
1. need something to prevent the poop, or there can be a lot on the floor around the cage...
2. the wheels and welding are vulnerable. Good on the smooth floor, but if there is a bump, the welding will easily snap.
3. newborn chinchillas can get through the wire
Generally, if you don't move the cages too often, they can last for at least a year. The wires can hold heavy platforms (my 9-pound kitten once get in. The plastic platform bent but didn't break. Wires were good). And there are a lot of space for storage. There's also a window on the top panel, so could have some add-on.

and was slightly disappointed. This is not a good cage for them

I originally bought this for my two ferrets for a cage swap with my rats, and was slightly disappointed.
This is not a good cage for them, only because it's a kind of too small and my two adult male ferrets cannot fit very well through the hole leading to the bottom. Also the pan itself is a bit shallower than expected but not much of a problem.
On the other hand i ended up using this cage for my three rats and they seem to enjoy the more open bars that I can really fit my gingers through and even pet them nicely through. I had to put a flat surface on the bottom along the wire though since it look a bit painful on their feet so I would keep that in mind if you're looking into this for rats.
I have the separator so my boy is on bottom and my girls on top, so if you do that I wouldn't advise you have more than two on each level for they're own comfort.
Without it being separated i can see 5 or 6 being in one cage happily!
The plastic is a bit cheap too on the ramps and levels.
My rats are quite slender and i was actually surprised that they didn't fir through the bars, though i would not recommend for rats under 2 months without some worry they could get out.
I'm currently satisfied with the cage for my rats, but my main issue that really bothered me was that there aren't a lot of places to hang things from the ceiling since things would slide all over across the top and not stay hooked in one place unless you wanted it all pretty much in one line, hence the four stars.
