Great with Carpeting Added

Used this on a recent daylong trip in a pickup truck. I believed, but didn't really understand until I saw it, what many others have said about the surface of the ramp. It is designed to help with traction but it actually feels like tiny shards of glass. My dog wasn't keen on it and I already had issues with him using anything. And ... it also hurt my own hands when I folded or opened it. So, like many others, I put carpet on the sections. I did not permanently affix these until I tested it out. Definitely the way to go. (This ramp is reasonably priced enough and has so many other pros that affixing carpet is an inexpensive addition that is well worth the effort.)
For those using a truck (quad cab, etc) where the passenger doors do not open wide, I found that putting the edge of the ramp on the top edge of the running board much more stable than trying to put it up higher close to the floor of the back. What I mean is, the lower to the ground, the better for stability and for steepness. It is a VERY manageable weight. I am a small woman (5'0") and lightweight and I had no problem sliding it in and out of the back seat. (My crazy being-rehabbed shelter dog will only get onto the flooring rather than the seat LOL so you will need to decide where it is most convenient for you to store.)
Bottom line: Recommended with carpeting.

Helpful but....

As it comes it is not much use. Like others I replaced the sand paper like covering with carpet with double faced tape. Another negative is that if you are using this in your driveway the thing will slip right off the car unless you are supporting it. There are no rubber feet or anything to help it grab the surface. With my 80 pound lab it is very difficult to guide him while holding the ramp in place with my foot. He is finally getting used to it but it has slipped out from under him twice causing him to be very wary of it. Not sure how to remedy that. But when it works it is very helpful. I cannot lift my 10 year old boy into the car and as he ages he (WE) will need it more and more.
Better than I could have hoped for!

This ramp exceeded my expectations. I have a 13 year old dog with a recent shoulder injury and even though she's only 38 pounds, she hates being lifted which makes it that much harder. I have a two door jeep wrangler and since most of the reviews on this product are for SUV's, I had no idea how/if this would work. It's absolutely perfectly awesome and she took to it within a few minutes of guiding her with her leash. The no slip tread insures sure footing and instills confidence. It's lightweight and folds in half and easily fits inside the tailgate behind the backseat. Love, Love, Love this product!!!
Needs Carpet !!!!

Ramp is great, sandpaper for dog traction is useless. Fix is easy go to home depot and but 12" wide indoor / outdoor carpet, I had to buy 12 feet, grand total was $6.73. Had it cut at the carpet department. Used duct 2 sided carpet tape to hold it down, fell off next day. Got out my Gorilla Glue and wham o, I now have a useful, light ramp for my 10 year old Norwegian Elkhound. She hated the sand paper, was very frightened while using ramp. Now she loves it. I have a 4Runner, it works great. Solvit could probably sell more of these if they added carpet instead of sand paper. I would buy this again.
Works great

This is working great for us. We have a Subaru Forester which has a bit of a lower back hatch than larger SUVs so we didn't need a longer one. I did attach some carpet on the recommendation of another reviewer and I think it makes it work even better - more grip for the dogs.I got a rubber backed 2 x 6 foot rug from Walmart, cut it appropriately and attached it with two chunks of velcro to the top only, so it is free to bend when I fold up the ramp. Very lightweight. Both dogs use it. The more fearful dog I have to guide with the leash but I think she'll get the hang of it on her own pretty soon.
