Not just for grout anymore.... these are TOUGH, TOUGH, fairly dense, yet soft to the hand sponges
goodolboydws✓ Verified Purchase•March 30, 2018
Compared to most cellulose sponges they have much smaller pores and are not quite as asorbent.
BUT these are TOUGH, TOUGH, fairly dense, yet soft to the hand sponges.
They are marketed as "grout" sponges. However.............
If the makers decided to make some cut into smaller sizes, and sold them as kitchen sponges, every one making and selling cellulose kitchen sponges would go out of business. I'd bet these would make GREAT sponge mops too, when cut into that shape.
I'd bought these when, about 6 months ago, I'd been frustrated while looking for a few CHEAP cellulose kitchen sponges without much success. I didnt want a lifetime supply and I was ****** at what a small package of sponges was selling for on Amazon. OK, I'm cheap, and yes, they'd be cheaper per unit if I bought a CASE of sponges, but who does that if they aren't working in a sponge-devouring business?
Our old cellulose sponges never seemed to last more than a month or 2 at most before starting to come apart, even though they were typically not used every single day. Also they would dry out and get hard and then not be immediately absorbant.
I'd wanted just plain old, NON-scrubbing layered, NON mesh-enclosed, NON-cute-shaped, NOT exotically-scented sponges-just the type that used to be available nearly everywhere.
So, when these turned up in a search, I'd checked their dimensions and figured that if I was VERY careful, I could slice 6, mostly all standard sized kitchen sponges out of just one of these, by first slicing the sponge into 2 layers, and if I COULD do that, Id have 18 (somewhat unevenly shaped) , and IF they lasted anywhwere near the same amount of time the old ones did, that would last a year or more before I'd have to look for sponges again. So, when they came, I cut the first one of the 3 pack of sponges in sixths.
The original sponge I'd put in the kitchen (1/6th of the whole) is still in the kitchen-with no signs of deterioration.
3 cellulose sponges have already disintegrated in the same period in the same use.
I've worked this single sponge harder than I've used cellulose sponges in the past, mostly to see how well it would hold up, and whatever its made of-it WORKS. I put one in each of the bathrooms and those too are virtually indistinguishable from the unused ones.
(My wife wasn't/isn't as enthusistic about this project as I-not the first time, involving one of my projects.)

Suds! Suds! Suds!

These things suds up like crazy! I use them to clean my bathrooms with liquid dish soap. Fill a small basin like you would to wash dishes and lather away! They work so well that I cut one in half for washing dishes. I wish they'd make smaller versions of this.
Good sponges. Exactly like the ones you've already used.

These are exactly what you think they are. I know that a lot of times on Amazon a product like the one we saw at Home Depot turns out to be 1/4 the size or the material is bad. These are exactly the same synthetic sponges I've used for years for painting, cleaning up spills, washing the car....They work great, don't stain very easily and hold up as well as you'd expect. Good price.
Big, firm, useful.

If you're looking to cover large areas quickly, this will do the trick. It's not the most absorbent sponge, but it's nicely firm and will hold up well. My main concern was whether little bits of it might break off and become a nuisance. If you rinse and wring it really well, most of the loose stuff is eliminated before you use it, but, I imagine, after many uses, it may start to break down. This might be great as a car-washing sponge...
Great for Ceramics/Sculpting/Art students

I bought these to keep my 15lb clay head from flatting out due to its weight. I put my sculpture in a paper bag and surrounded it with the sponges. In car rides the sponges were sturdy enough to keep my head from moving around and also shock absorbed some of the sudden bumps on the road. My classmates even cut up the sponges to stick them inside their sculptures because they would hold a piece together so well.
