ProWatt keeps it Cool!

After living many years "off-grid" in northern Vermont I will say Xantrex offers great inverters! They are high quality and (IMO) are very well priced. Yep- the sine wave power is pure/clean. No interference or "buzzz" with these ProWatt's. They carry a good 2 year warranty with solid customer service. Most inverters only have a 1yr warranty. I have both the ProWatt 1K and a 2K. One of my favorite features on these Prowatt inverters is how quiet they run. These inverters have very rare thermostatically controlled cooling fans that are "variable". They will spool up or down just enough to cover the cooling need which is determined by the load heat within the inverter. Under light to medium loads the inverter cooling fans are running but slow, smooth & with zero noise. This is a big plus because the fans are working even under light loads to keep heat from building or accumulating within the inverter...this steady cooling helps to combat or control sudden heavy surge load heat temps as well. Heat kills electronics so a cool inverter is a happy inverter and happy inverters last! Most all other inverter manufacturers don't have these type cooling fans...most all offer thermostat temp control fans but they are NOT variable and they only turn on when the inverter is working hard and hot. So when the cooling fans are needed which is very often they run at full speed and they are loud. It would be great if Xantrex would offer a 3k or 4k watt inverter in this ProWatt line...I would certainly purchase one or two! I say go ProWatt!
Worked fine for 36 hours

UPDATE:
I've been using this for 50weeks now in our RV. We are full-timers, and among other things, "‹this runs our computers, flat screen TV, and blender daily. Never had a problem.
Before I doubled our battery bank it was pretty iffy on the microwave, but that was a power in issue. If I plug in the only 110 volt LED light we have it flickers slightly, but nothing else has ever shown an issue.
I still have nothing good to say about the company's customer service, but with Amazon backing it up, this is an excellent piece of equipment well worth the money.
----
Worked fine for 36 hours, then went down. No error codes and still getting power from the USB port, but nothing at the 120v outlets. Showing no error codes.
I think the GFCI outlet went bad, but I can't crack the box without voiding my warranty. I wrote the company with a lot of detail on the issue and got an answer which was like being told to reboot your modem when you call the DSL company to report a tree took out your phone line. I followed their directions and reported it did not fix the issue. A week later I have not heard back.
I ordered a replacement from Amazon, and got it in less than two days. I'll follow up when (if) it has been running for a while.
Bottom line, I have no idea how the device is, but the company customer service is useless.
Still going strong

You need to Add some accessories when you buy an inverter

I am replacing an older Xantrex unit that cost $1200 about 8yrs ago with this unit. I called Xantrex and asked them why the units are so different and they told me this new type of unit has different technology. So this is not my first rodeo when it comes to solar inverters.

Having said that there were some things I wish the seller had done better.

1) you need to also buy an inline ANL-250amp fuse. The seller does not indicate that. You basically find that out after you buy the product and then read the instructions. You can get them on Amazon for $13 for the fuse and the holder. But better also get a couple extra fuses.

2) the instructions say you need #0 (pronounced "Aut") gauge wire, but the box the inverter comes in says #4 gauge. It is very difficult to find #0 gauge wire and when you do its $5/foot unless you want to buy 25 feet of it. My original solar power setup had double #2 gauge wire so I figured the #4 wire recommended on the box the inverter came in was going to be too small. The lower the number, the thicker the wire. This system needs thick wire if you read the other reviews, so dont try to go cheap. Get the thickest wire possible - #0 gauge. But here the box and the instructions dont match when it comes to the recommended wiring required. And you will have to hunt around to marine and RV dealers to find #0 gauge wire - and the big copper end plugs.

3) you also need to find #6 gauge wire to use for the grounding connection. If you connect the ground wire to the chassis of the RV or a grounding point in your boat you will need wire and end connectors for that.

This does have GFCI outlets, which most of the cheap Chinese models do not. GFCI plugs are like the ones you have in the bathroom wall for plugging in your hair dryer so you dont electrocute yourself by accident. If the outlet senses a short caused by water the outlet fuse will trip and you wont get killed. This is a must have if you plan to use an inverter in a boat or RV where condtions could be damp. Alternatively you could buy a GFCI extension plug I suppose.

The unit has been in place and running for 24 hours now and so far no issues. I am running with Four 6-Volt deep cycle batteries configured to produce 12-volts. Each battery has 225 amps. That is enough power to run a small A/C unit, TV, computers, fans, etc. and not get a power shutdown because the batteries are drained. But it does put a real strain on the system if you try to run a coffee maker, microwave, or 800 Watt A/C unit. This is better for running small electronics, like TVs, computers and such and occassionally running a coffee maker or microwave. if you need to run heavy electronics like a fridge, washing machine, etc then this unit would be too small.
Changed from 4 star to 5 star after I found a defective battery caused the Inverter not to power a microwave

Originally disappointed this would not run my 1100 Watt Microwave in my trailer. Though the batteries tested good at the time about 6 months ago, a recent battery problem showed up with "Thermal Run Away" when my trailers 110VAC to 12VDC Converter/Charger was charging. One of my two batteries overheated and started steaming.

This problem did not show up while using my solar converter/charger due to the fact the system has a safety heat sensor interfaced to the Solar Converter/Charger. I assume as the batteries started heating up with the Solar charger the sensor shut down charging. During troubleshooting and trying the 110VAC to 12VDC Converter/Charger I found there was now a battery problem.

After replacing both batteries the inverter also now runs the Microwave off this 2000 Watt inverter.

I thank to all that commented and sent suggestions:

I am now running well with the following configuration:

5 to 6ft of 1/0 battery cable cable, with crimped and soldered copper lugs, between my batteries and inverter.

Batteries are 2 x 12V #27 Interstate Marine Deep cycle.

These 2 batteries are wired in parallel, and rated at 96AH each which is providing 192 amps (when everything is perfect)

My two batteries are connected to a 2 panel 280 watt solar array and 30 amp solar charger.

Incidentally for those that want to know. My Microwave, while running off the inverter & battery bank draws 31 amp/hrs (12VDC) on my meter. Though it is a convenience, running the microwave is limited since it will deplete the batteries with any extended use.

The first 2000 watt unit I purchased hummed when turned off, with the DC applied. I had tried it on a isolated battery to double check. I spoke to a Customer Service Tech at Xantrex and asked about the hum. This was loud enough I could hear it through a closed cabinet from 5 or 6 ft away. I had re-checked every connection multiple times for something loose. The customer service rep double checked with someone and came back on the line and said this was not a trait of this unit. I asked the Amazon community if this happened with theirs. Some stated "when it is off, it is off". I contacted Amazon to do a return based on this info. They couldn't do an exchange but did say I could get a refund, then reorder the item.

I changed my original review rating from 3 to a 4 because this Amazon refund went so smoothly. I had to re-order and the price from the same seller had gone up slightly. It did not raise in price enough to waste more time trying to resolve this to get the original price. The new unit (2nd one) arrived and is installed and not humming. The ease of the return, and the prompt re-ordering process was the reason for upgrading my review from 3 to a 4.
