Have realistic expectations, perform safety checks, great product for price!
GeorgiaHikerDaveSeptember 10, 2017
For the price, these can't be beat. I'm not sure how some buyers are messing these up. I can understand if it doesn't fit your particular vehicle manufacturer's cross bars, but these are simple, sturdy and inexpensive. I've purchased 5 sets of these in the last 3 years and haven't had problems with any of them. They've all gone on Yakima round bars (our 2 cars are a Toyota Highlander and Honda Fit and they've worked great!).

Do check the tightness of the turn knobs. At least twice a month, I take a kayak across a couple states with these (I work out of town and always bring a kayak with me :-) I routinely spend hours and hours at interstate speeds with these racks. When I stop for gas, food or a stretch break from traveling, I always check the tightness of the turn knobs and straps. The knobs have been known to loosen a little, but heck, for $25/pair, I can't complain. Oh, and just plan on the expense of nicer straps. The straps that come with these are truly junk and I wouldn't trust my boat with them. Go for NRS or Yakima straps if you want to guarantee your stuff is going to stay tight.

Bottom line: for the price, I can't complain. Buy these with realistic expectations and they should give you several years of good service!
Good for the money but not great design
CraigSeptember 3, 2017
Arrived quickly - as always from Amazon. Assembly for the first one took about 20 minutes. There are no instructions just 1 picture. It was a pain trying to fit the two main pieces together but not impossible once you did it once. The rack itself is decent quality. Not heavy duty but good for a 10 ft kayak or surf boards.

The part that is disappointing is the design of the main part that attaches to your roof rack. Per their instructions you need to put the kayak rack on top of your roof cross bar (hold this) while you add another washer and a nut. The good thing is that the nut is not a locking nut. The bad thing is that it's not a locking nut. I assume the nut with the plastic knob is acting as the 2nd lock nut BUT this is an additional step that is annoying.

PLUS, you need to really tighten the nut so that the bolt goes completely through the plastic. Otherwise, if it's not tight, your kayak, although secured to the rack could come completely loose off the roof rack.

I'm not 100% sold that I'm keeping it yet. I borrowed a neighbors rack that fixed this very problem I'm (probably poorly) describing.
Excellent value

These require less effort to get my kayak into than the cradle style I was using before. I don't have to lift the boat as far towards the center of the car, and I can just gently roll it into position. These hold the boat much more firmly as well. The straps aren't fancy but work fine.
They fit onto my factory aero-style crossbars surprisingly well and are perfectly stable. Instead of comprehensive instructions you receive a parts diagram, but it is very straightforward.
When empty there is a small increase in wind noise compared to naked crossbars, but it's a rushing noise with no whistling.
I found these for sale locally (Fred Meyer) and they were literally 4x the price!
Well it would be nice if they could handle wider kayaks
Travis BroschatJune 23, 2017
They're cheap and they work! What more could you ask for, right? Well it would be nice if they could handle wider kayaks, but the way they hold them makes it scary. larger kayaks catch a lot of wind sheer from semi trucks and make it scary to carry my Hobie Outback on this rack. But I also have a 13ft Perception Conduit that travels wonderfully in this rack. If you have the right boat, this is a great rack at a great price! If you have a wider boat you should take a look at the Sportrack Saddle Carrier.
Pretty good, works exactly how it should
Amazon CustomerMay 30, 2017
Pretty good, works exactly how it should. As far as stability goes it's just about as good as the Thule rack mount, almost doesn't fit my square bars unless it's really tight though. The design is a little weird, once everything is all put together it isn't exactly straight, but it's secure. I just used a deep socket ratchet to tighten the nuts so it stays nice and tight on my roof rack, because otherwise it comes loose. A ratcheting wrench would be better though cause you don't gotta risk scratching your roof. The straps it comes with are decent, but not really great. With some ratcheting rope straps on the front and back of the boat hooked to the tow hooks on my car a kayak it isn't going anywhere, even at 50 MPH
