Easy to configure and get running.
SuperJere•May 2, 2017
I bought this so I could configure a RAID 5 array to store all of my pictures, TV shows, movies, and home videos. I purchased four 8-TB Western Digital Red NAS drives to give me a total usable capacity of 24 TB. The directions were clear and easy to follow and in just a few minutes I had everything up and running. I use USB 3.0 and transferring my data from my existing external (also USB 3.0) and internal hard drives (SATA III) I was able to transfer data at about 50 MB/sec. So far I have been very impressed with the device and have already recommended it to a few friends.

It works as designed. I had to figure out that the box itself was the raid controller and not windows. You have to set up the raid first before attaching to the PC. The PC will then see one large drive for example if using raid 10. You can activate and format that single drive from windows. I am using the eSata connection since I do not have usb 3 on this mother board and the speeds are fine for file transfer and storage.
Great affordable option for Network Storage and Backups

This is a super simple, easy to configure RAID array. It took me longer to figure out how to set it up in my router to be shared than it did to actually get it up and running. Within 10 minutes I had this fully assembled and operating directly on my PC.
Pros:
- Super Quick to Assemble and get running
- Seems very well cooled with its fans.
Cons:
- Doesn't support the largest size drives available, but I didn't want to shell out money for four of the larger drives anyways.
- The power cord being on the side is an odd decision but not a big deal for me given its position in my entertainment center.
- The lights might be a bit too bright for some people. This isn't an issue for me but if installed near a television its lights will be quite visible in the dark.

Reliable so far after 4 months, but a little slow
Expo Reviews•January 19, 2017
I waited 4 months to write the review since my previous different brand RAID failed in 2 months.
This has been reliable so far in Raid 5 using four WD Red 3Tb drives for a 8Tb equivalence (shows 8.18Tb capacity).
I use this for archives, so this speed it OK.
SATA connection, but is still 2X slower compared to my single external drives such as 4TB portable and 5 & 8Tb Seagate and 8Tb WD book drives.

A Great Retro-Future looking hardware RAID storage box.

Time will tell, but I really like this box out of the gate. Easy to set up, and a fairly small footprint to hold 4 drives. It's sturdy with a bit of an old school retro future look like something you'd find on the set of Star Trek from the late 60s.
I recently bought this 4 bay RAID DAS and the competing 5 bay Mobius RAID, which is more something you'd see on JJ Abrams' Star Trek set. Both are surprisingly well-made for such price points. I don't think you can go wrong with either depending on your needs (for 4 or 5 bays).
Edit (April 5, 2017): I downgraded to 4 stars because the front opening drawer is too flimsy, and the internal drive locking mechanism is unreliable. It's all in all flimsy compared to the competing Mobius 5 bay Raid Box that is $80 more expensive. The device works fine, but I think the $80 premium for the Mobius 5 bay RAID is worth it.
