Frustrating Purchase, but well worth it!!
Robb BrownFebruary 12, 2018
This is a frustrating product. If you are looking at it, it's because your water line is freezing up, and has become annoying enough to look for a permanent solution. This is the permanent solution. I was tired of going away for a weekend, only to come back to a frozen water line. Then you get out the hairdryer, melt the ice (hopefully quickly), and wait for it to happen again. This product solves that. It melts the ice, and keeps it melted. Should I have to buy this part for my refrigerator? No. Am I glad I bought? Absolutely. The product takes about 20 minutes to install, not including allowing the silicone they recommend to dry overnight. If your water freezes, buy this kit.

It works. Not the easiest installation. If you're a technical person it will be easy to install. Taking the fridge apart to install is harder. This thing connects with 2 wires, it's just taking everything apart without breaking tabs on the trim plate is another story. You have to disconnect the main circuit board with tiny connectors. Also you have to use some silicone sealer around the water tube and let that harden before installing this. There are some You tube videos out there you should watch before attempting this. I installed it and 24 hours later to this day, it hasn't frozen once...
Looks like it would work

Looks like it would work. I ended up not being able to use it, because my GE model required the freezer door, be taken apart, the seal removed and the inside of the door opened. That was a little more work than I was willing to do. This issue is apparently a known design flaw causing the water line to freeze up. This is suppose to fix it.
It works!!!!

Watched a couple of different online videos. Noticed the heating wires did not cover a lot of the adhesion portion. So I added some balls of aluminum and used aluminum tape to add to the heated area and help it adhere. No more frozen line.
Check your wiring!!! Make sure the pins you use provide over 12 volts DC. I had to use pin #2 and pin #3 on my fridge.

I agree with others that the instructions included leaving something to be desired.

*******NOTE my GE Fridge is MN: GSL22JFXM LB and the included wiring instructions do not apply. I had to tap pin #2 (red) and pin #3 (black) for my wires to start to heat. Using Pin #6 did not provide the ground necessary. I used a digital multimeter to verify that pin #2 and pin #3 gave me the voltage required (in my case I was seeing 13.76 volts DC).

After doing this, the ice dam was broken permanently ;)
