The ramp is sturdy - but
DebC✓ Verified Purchase•June 10, 2017
The ramp is sturdy - but, man, the other reviewers were not kidding about the "non-slip" material used. My "extra wide ramp" did not have carpet, but came with the "non-slip" material - which is basically like sprayed-on sand-paper. VERY rough. My poor dog needed a lot of coaxing and pushing to go up it initially.... but the worse part was when she came down it the first time - she slid right down it and it hurt her paws. :( Also, she put big scratches in the sand-paper material within minutes of using the ramp, so you can see how thin and low-grade it is.
I saw other reviews where folks put carpet or rubber mats on their ramps. I liked the idea of the rubber door mats - cheap, non-slip, and I can hose them off. We had a couple smaller ones, and they fit just about perfect. My son bolted them on, and with those, our aging 60lb dog was able to go up and down much, much better to get in and out of my SUV. It took some more coaxing, after her initial bad experience - but, she's getting the hang of it. She actually goes down it better than up it. I have to get behind her and sort of push her up it a little still. You may want to just plan on adding the mats or carpet, if you get this and avoid any trauma. I don't understand why they would use such a material that would hurt their feet, rather than some paw-friendly tread on these things in the first place. ?? :/

HOW TO GET YOUR DOG TO USE THE RAMP

The ramp is pretty stable - not as much as a solid wooden step ramp though (which she has used for years on another part of the house). My dog (12 years old) didnt like it, so we started with it lying on the floor, with chairs on both sides, and then made her run over it to get a treat which I held in the front and then moved it over to the front of the ramp. After a couple days, we set up the ramp to her favorite spot on the couch, with the chairs on both sides, and she had no problem going up and down if we waved a treat in front of her. In the next few days we will work on removing the chairs and I will update my review, but it looks great now.
Very nice and effective...and actually...

...Perfect...for a very large, arthritic, old cat (who thinks he's a dog). Took to it in 1 minute. Now his favorite thing in the house. We had stairs for him to climb but the discomfort was becoming more apparent with each use. My wife and I got online to find an alternative and settled on this to try. Couldn't have done better for what was available out there. (And she was starting to entertain my building one that would work. Avoided two problems with this. ;-) ) Takes actually less space than the stairs for maintaining walking path around bed. In a personal opinion, I question the ability to afford up to 200 pounds of dog...but I can still make it onto the bed with out it...so far!!
Amazing!! Worth the price

Amazing!! Worth the price. I have two labs and lifted Jeep Wrangler. I am a vet tech so I'm always looking for whats best for my babies and I know jumping up and down from high elevations is not safe for their limbs. My 12 year old lab is very arthritic and this is a godsend for him and he is not afraid of it!! The width is perfect and both my boys love this ramp!
Love my ramps, dogs should be supervised when using them.

Bought two of these to use in a confidence building dog training course. Got the buy used and save ones- couple small cracks from being dropped, filled with super glue, don't expect any problems. Added double face carpet tape to a couple areas where carpet lifted from velcro a bit, otherwise loving both ramps. No issues going up or down the carpet by my 65 pound Rottie X Pit mix, if she steps on edges where there is no carpet she will slip- dog should be supervised when using to make sure they stay on the carpet. Yes, would recommend these and buy again.
