Fixed an old extra fridge
Barbara H.February 10, 2018
We used this to fix our 1992 Tappan fridge that we keep in the basement to hold extras in. Simple to install and fridge is back up and running. Only takes a few minutes. We almost threw the Tappan out but decided for less than $15 to try it. Sure glad we did.
REFIG IS DESIGNED TO FAIL AT 10 YEARS
D. JANECKEJanuary 31, 2018
After 10 years my $2000 Maytag refrig stopped cooling. The snap on OEM "relay, capacitor, and overload" device attached to the compressor failed. The telltale rattling noise, when shaken, was caused by the overload disc broken up inside. It looks like a large button battery. I had to drill out the rivet holding the device together to look at the disc. After very careful ohming of the 3 compressor terminals, I felt confidant I identified the Start-Run-Common electrical terminals of the compressor. My refrig compressor had no markings to identify them. 5-10 minute install job, secured the unit with a tie strap to existing wiring. Worked perfect on my 1/4 hp Maytag compressor. Has been running now for 3 days, I hope it will run for many decades now.

The question is "WHY DON'T THE REFRIGERATOR MANUFACTURERS INSTALL THIS DEVICE ON THEIR PRODUCTS!!"
Bingo, this was too easy.

My National 427 food machine stopped cooling so I bought the Supco RCO410 to replace the factory capacity/starter. Wired it up per the instructions which were easy to do and BINGO, compressor fired up and is cooling again. Saved $100 on a service call by repairing this myself. Probably buy 3 more of these to keep handy in my shop for future vending machine breakdowns.
As advertised, works like a charm...

It took about 5 minutes to install. With some electrical knowledge, some common sense, youtube, and help from the Holy Father above, I installed this device and had my Kenmore Refrigerator/Freezer working again. According to the package, the polarity didn't matter when hooking up the power. (I had my fire extinguisher handy just in case.) My compressor was not kicking on prior to the change. Once everything was completed and I plugged in the refrigerator, the compressor kicked on, and everything was within operational specs in about 6 hours (freezer 0, refrigerator 38).

The money spent saved me about $2,400.00 on a new appliance. It's also not a bad idea to clean out the dust while you have everything apart. There shouldn't be a lot but you know what they say about cleanliness. All the best to you DIYer's!

Fridge stopped getting cold .did a little research on you tube .and low and behold there was this starter kit .I removed all the old starter relays from compressor. Received this one in two days took all of 5-minutes to install . It is now blowing ice cold ...hard to believe this fridge way on its way to curb..will see how long it last ...will buy a spare one to keep on hand ..
