I bought three of these lights in late 2014 and they looked nice in the beginning. That said, they started losing brightness within a year, and just as a write this, two of them just did out for no apparent reason, I don't mean that their fading light got worse, they just randomly died out with no comeback. Since they are LED's and are pricey, even by aquarium light standard, the least you would expect is durability and good quality, both of which are lacking in this awful product.

I love this LED bar light. The light that came with my tank was fine, but lower than what is needed for a planted tank. Since upgrading to this product, my plants are growing great. My daughter loves to request different colors of light. I show her blue, green, orange, red, and lightning. i show off the lightning setting when people come over and look at it. I thought that the lightning would be my favorite, but I really enjoy the setting that goes through all the different colors slowly. Its great and relaxing after a long day at work. The only issue I have had with it, and its not a real problem or anything, is that sometimes my daughter will try to change the colors with the TV remote (shes a toddler) and some of the TV remote buttons work! But it only happens when she points it directly at the light sensor, not when we are just watching TV. So consider that before placing it on your tank if your tank is real close to the TV.

This light has some nice options. Unfortunately, it is not programmable, so as a planted tank owner, I pretty much have to leave it on full yellow all the time. After 2.5 years, I noticed 90% of the reds and 20% of the green leds are no longer working. I'm not sure how long the light is supposed to last, but I had hoped for longer than that, considering I still have some flourescent fixtures from the 80s (though of course I've had to replace bulbs).

This is a great light, but it takes some getting used to. The printed instructions are very basic, and you really have to "play" with it to learn how to get the light just where you want it in terms of color, etc. That said, there are tons of reviews and answered questions for all the sizes, so with enough looking you can find advice on any issues you might have. We bought this for a ten gallon tank (black rim) and it stays secure on top, provides limitless lighting options to highlight our male betta, and is easy to take on and off (or simply slide out of the way) for routine water changes, etc. We looked at the Finnex 24/7 as well, but the plastic legs were a concern. This light is well made, and VERY stable on top of the tank - which with a four year old around was a high priority for us. We're starting a second planted tank soon, and will be ordering another of these lights in the bigger size (even though the price has nearly doubled in the last month!?)...
I will mention that the first one we received had been opened in transit, and was missing the remote (which is well hidden inside the box, so someone knew just where to look). But we returned it to Amazon easily, and the second one arrived intact. Not a criticism of the light mind you, just a problem we've been noticing with Prime packages not being taped up as well as they used to be. Lots of boxes arriving partially or completely opened due to lack of tape - a REALLY easy thing for Amazon to fix.
The light itself is awesome. Took off one star because:
1) It can be confusing at times when first learning it's functions.
2) Future models should really include an off/on switch on the light itself - our biggest fear is that the remote will be misplaced (perhaps by above mentioned 4 year old), instantly making it useless.

For the first year I had this light, I loved it. Then it stopped working.

It turns out that over time, moisture builds up inside of the light and eventually causes failure. This moisture is from very minimal "splashing", due to air bubbles coming out of my water. This lamp is described as "water resistant"...I completely disagree.

I have had many other lights, none of which have had this problem. So, I'm sad to say that if you want a light which can last you should probably look elsewhere.
