This thing is rock solid. I've owned other Estwing products before and never been let down. The all-metal/seamless head to handle construction is the biggest selling point to me. You can beat the heck out of it and it won't fail you. Chopping, hammering, throwing...it does it all without complaint. The shape of the blade is also better than some of the other similar axes. This is a medium size axe. Great for using around the house, or camping, but you may not want to carry it on a long backpacking trip. Go with something lighter for that.

This thing is an amazing, heavy duty, US made chopping machine. No complaints of it being too light like a lot of other hatchets I've owned. You can actually let it do the work like a larger axe so it won't wear you out like a lighter axe will.

Looking forward to chopping something with this! I am a gardener and love good tools. The right tool for the job. They become old go-to friends that I can rely on for years and years. This 16" has a nice weight and balance. Could use a bit of sharpening to realize it's potential. I was disappointed that the black is a coating that comes off when trying to get the adhesive off from the stickers. Caution- use butter to remove adhesive. Honestly, it works pretty well. Old school.

This thing is great, you won't be disappointed, the handle and head are one solid piece of steel, the grip feels comfortable, and the sheath fits fine. It arrived fairly sharp and in brand-new condition, it's not too heavy and not too light it's just right, balance is very good, you might even survive a bear attack with this, when all else fails just shove it down his throat and run like heck ( assuming you're still able to run ). My neighbor was over when it arrived , he does a lot of camping and went back home to order one , lol.
It even works better and you can find many different patterns/ colors
