Nice light
AdamC✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 11, 2018
I bought these for my Mother-in-law's 45 gallon bow front. I have a 55 gallon myself with a set of the Fluval Marine 2.0 LED Reef lights (you can see my review of those and the wifi module elsewhere.)

I purchased these primarily because of the very high reviews (of which there are 900+ as of this writing.) These fit fine and work well, though I wasn't as overwhelmed as a lot of other reviewers seem to be.

Pros:

Very slim profile
Inexpensive

Cons:

No where near as powerful as the Fluval lights. I run my lights at 65% power in my 55 gallon tank and get great results. These, at 100%, are much less powerful than the Fluval at 65%. I think I would need two sets to do the job of one set of the fluval.

The controller isn't as user friendly as a lot of the descriptions make it out to be. The wifi module of the fluval is quirky, but I still had an easier time setting the times than I did with the remote for the Current USA.

Summary:

I still gave these four stars because the Current USA set, with remote, came in at around $130 where my fluval set, with wifi module, is upwards of $300, so it is a bit unfair to even compare the two. For the price, I would probably buy these again.
Great for 29 gallon Bio-cube - with a few flaws
acromie✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 14, 2018
First off I want to give this thing 5 stars BUT this is my second unit. The timer went bad on my last unit after maybe a year...

Cons:
1. The feet on the light (the bar you see in the picture) rust, which sucks. I painted them with some nail polish but still the feet are slowly being eaten away.
2. Programming the timer is annoying at best, i can figure it out but it's kind of a pain.
3. Moon light is just blue light, and way to bright for a moon light.

Pros:
1. Amazing light for the price, I have had almost every type of coral thrive. Maybe not bright enough for stoney but now i have switched to a 12 hour lighting time and everything is doing really well.
2. Small, fits under the hood of my old oceanic bio-cube (with the guts removed)
3. Features are nice, set it an forget it (unless the timer goes bad)
4. the light (not timer) seems to maintain strength unlike compact florescence. After 2 yers my corals are still doing very well.
5. Shimmer look pretty good again for the price.
Excellent lighting and spectrum output

Excellent! I have a 125 gallon saltwater and these are great! I previously had 50/50 metal halide pendants. For the cost of replacement bulbs (for those that don't know, metal halide bulbs should be replaced yearly as they lose spectrum with use), I was able to buy 2 of these LED bars. The sunrise and sunset are very nice features. Especially when adding fish to avoid light shock. I have live rock in my system and measured the intensity using a LUX meter at various depths. Even trough glass tops, the lighting at half depth is more than sufficient to grow zoanthid (food by light) corals. The fact that the lighting can be adjusted almost infinity to adjust for unique tank needs (coral species) is also a major plus. I bought these over a year ago and they are still going strong. For those of you that have had issues, PLEASE contact Current USA before slamming the fixture. Current is exceptional about replacements and fixes. My halide pendants were also Current USA and they have always been extremely helpful.
Great light for Fluval Spec / Evo V
mcas✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 11, 2017
This is a fantastic light for a Fluval Evo or Spec V. I bought the Evo V, which comes with LEDs that are reasonably decent for saltwater, at least for the softies (and maybe LPS) I intend to keep in this tank. I was on the fence about whether or not to spend the money on a lighting upgrade, but I mainly did it for the ramp timer function.

The aspect of programming this light is interesting, as I find it a bit confusing, yet at the same time reasonably easy. I'd say my biggest complaint about is that it seems to time out too quickly. For instance, if I hit the button to adjust the actinic channel, while I'm trying to figure out or remember what button I need to hit next to adjust the desired parameter, if I want more than 5 seconds or so it exits out of that, and I have to hit the actinic channel button again. I'd characterize that as a minor annoyance, and certainly not a show-stopper.

Another relatively minor issue is that the aluminum chassis of the light I received was "twisted" slightly. Not horrifically so, but enough so that it is able to wobble noticeably. I exchanged it for another one, which was still twisted a bit, though not as much as the first one. Again, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, so I'm keeping it.

In short, it's a reasonably priced, reasonably bright fixture.
Absolutely LOVE this light!
MetalFairyMama✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 17, 2016
Absolutely love this light! I have this on a 20 long reef as well as a the smaller model on a 10 reef. Both are doing very well and my corals are thriving. The remote has tons of options to adjust the lighting to your specific needs and desires. I leave mine on the main program day and night cycles with the sunrise and sunset features. Those latter features seem to really help the tank settle down at night and "wake up" in the morning. The corals open and close gently over time as the lights very slowly fade into the dark blue and then completely turn off at night, and then turn back on and fade in from dark blue to white/mix the next morning. As mentioned, my corals are incredibly happy with this light. They are growing well and my hammer, in particular, is splitting again as I write this!

This light does not give off very much heat. It will feel a little hot if you place your hand right on the top of it while it's been on all day, but it will not burn you and can still be easily moved while on without any discomfort. The temps only swing about .5 degrees max in my tanks between evenings and days (lights off and on), but that could also just be the regular house temps affecting it as well.

I've received several compliments on this light and my illuminated tanks. Visitors seem most impressed with the sleek and slim design of these lights, the ease in which they can be moved when needed, the intensity of light and it's effect on everything in the tanks, as well as the sunrises and sunsets (which seem to be the most intriguing of features to guests).

I would highly recommend this light to anyone interested. It is affordable, aesthetically pleasing, practical, and offers an amazing variety of options. The only setting I would not recommend is the thunderstorm, which can frighten and stress your tank. But the cloudy day feature is an interesting setting to mix things up and add some variety to your daily lighting with subtle and slow changes.
