Awesomely non-tactical EDC knife
Artem✓ Verified Purchase•May 19, 2018
This is just an awesome classic, magnificently non-tactical folder (as in: people friendly) for EDC, fishing, backpacking, whatever-else-you-throw-at-it type use. I've got a medium-large hand, and the handle is a comfortable size for me, it doesn't feel like a "junior" knife at all when in use. Of course, know what you're buying, CV carbon steel will rust quickly so just look after it if it's needed. It comes with a great edge and will get hair popping sharp quite easily. The backspring is nice and tight, the design is simple yet sturdy, it will take hard use and ask for more. There's really not much more to say, it's a good old Sod Buster in Case "yella", it's already a proven knife. Get yourself one, you won't be disappointed.
Not quite perfect, but it's a keeper.

My first Case XX knife. And my first chrome vanadium blade. I love the Sod Buster frame, whether it's full-size or the Junior version. (This one is the jr.) Small and lightweight.
The negatives: Blade was not as sharp as I expected. I've ordered about a half-dozen Frost Cutlery Chinese and Pakistani knives, and every one of those $10-15 cheapos were noticeably sharper out of the box than this American-made sample. I was mildly disappointed that this one was not honed to the max, nor does it feel like the edges are evenly honed on each side. Also, the blade does not sit perfectly centered when closed. That isn't a major issue, but it is something that needs mentioning.
The positives: Fit and finish are pretty good. Despite the blade not sitting centered when closed, all else is fine...no blade wobble or looseness, it opens and closes smoothly with just the right amount of tension, and it looks beautiful. The bone is matched nicely, and the rivets and frame all match up seamlessly. Feels good in my hands, and I anticipate many years of service from this tool.
Bottom line...a sharper blade (with symmetrical edges) would have gotten it five stars, but overall I still am quite pleased with this knife. I'd recommend it to a friend or family member.
EDIT: A few days after reviewing this knife, I spent about 15 minutes with my various sharpeners and put a near-razor edge on it. It's held that edge for days now, even with mild daily usage. Now, I'm as happy as can be with it.

Not the Quality I Expected From Case
Jim Hannoonen✓ Verified Purchase•January 30, 2018
I was so excited to get this knife and when it showed up I was pretty disappointed. This is the first Case I've ever bought and while the blade is very sharp, the point is extremely dull. It has a ton of side to side play and is almost impossible to open/close. It's like there's sand in it.
I would have expected this from a $5 knife, but not from a Case. Maybe I just got a bad one.
I'm sending it back for a replacement, but if this is any indication of the quality of Case knives, I'm sure the replacement will go back as well.
I'm bummed.
Update 2/14/18 - I received the replacement knife and am much happier with it. There is no play in the blade at all, it was very sharp out of the box (although I was able to get it a lot sharper), the action is smooth, the blade is centered and it's gorgeous. The only reason It's not getting 5 start is the point is still rather blunt.

The, Sod Buster indeed.

Hey sports fans. My first Sod Buster knife, and its from Case. I went with the amber bone, and I feel its a very beautiful finish. Fits in the small right-hand jean pocket very nicely. I use it as a secondary blade to whatever else I may have as a primary. It was mostly sharp out of box, but I did give it a few passes on the Spyderco Sharpmaker, and now its very sharp. Overall, very happy with this purchase. I'd very much recommend this offering from Case. I may indeed buy another down the road to add to the collection. Money well spent. Have a great day.
Case can still do it right and this is a VERY inexpensive knife . . . considering that it is made in the USA

I got a good one !
One concern I had is that the grind on the side of the blade, in the photos, looks very coarse and file like compared to the CV blade and other Case knives which are very flat and polished (some times hollow ground obviously). Well I went ahead and ordered the SS steel Sod Buster and figured I could smooth it my self if I had too. I have smoothed and polished the sides of knives this way before so I knew what I was getting into.
No problem. Running my fingernail over the side of the knife it is much smoother than it looks and I am happy. It is a work knife and I will use it just as it came. Good stuff !
The blade is centered well enough, There are very minor gaps between the scales and the liners but they are way thinner than a sheet of paper. Hardly anything. The brass pins and pivot look great with the blue handle and I like the color of the blue super well. Just what I wanted.
The blade was plenty sharp enough out of the box. It had some wire edge but most all factory blades do. I touched it up on a hone and all is great. I cut up some stuff before this and the edge performed well; many people would be pleased with how it cut out of the box. Certainly NOT DULL by any stretch of the imagination.
This is, as some have said, a good sized knife. Just what I wanted. Compares to the Buck 110. About half the weight or less though. Other than the kind of long length (closed) it is very pocketable where as the 110 is like having the head of a hammer in your pocket it is a must to carry the 110 in the pouch it comes with. I carry the Case Sod Buster in an ammo clip belt pouch as I do with many of my larger folders; my Benchmade Griptillian for example. The Sod Buster is too long to carry in the Buck 110 pouch.
Bottom line : Case can still do it right and this is a VERY inexpensive knife and considering that it is made in the USA for the price they are practically paying you to carry their knife. For this price they aren't making much considering the vendor has to mark it up. Truth be told if I buy a good size pocket knife made in the US for under a hundred dollars I feel like I am under paying so keep that in mind.
I wish I would have bought one of these years ago. It is "my kind" of handle shape and the blade shape and relation to the handle is very useful and comfortable. The smooth handle is a little slick (at this price you won't feel back about taking a file and adding some texture if it is too slick for you.
I say buy it; very useful. Good quality.
