I think this is a very nice knife for the money
Derek P.✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 30, 2017
This was purchased to see what kind of quality is coming from Chinese knife manufacturers. Overall, I think this is a very nice knife for the money. Will it beat the $200 knife it was copied from (Lionsteel SR-2)? Not quite as the materials are subpar compared to the original. The fit and finish is pretty nice, though. The blade is hefty and came fairly sharp. It took a very nice edge after sharpening, but 440C is super easy to get a keen edge on. The pocket clip is decent, but it is not reversible. Lock up is tight and appears to be robust. The blade jimping is not very aggressive, but the G10 grip is nice. It has a plastic backspacer and the liners are not skeletonized. This thing is heavy and feels solid. I'm sure this we be great camping/hiking beater knife.
Great knife, Great price.

Pros: This knife is awesome for the price. Grip is ergonomic and comfortable. Cut through paper out of the box like a hot knife through butter. Blade is centered when closed and sturdy when opened. Locking mechanism was knew to me but works flawlessly and locks tight and I got used to it fast. Texturing on the handle is unique and feels great. It's a heavier knife but that's what I wanted. This knife feels solid and dependable. I can't put it down I love holding it so much.

A small Con: (Personal experience) the pocket clip has a large lip at the end which caught on a stairwell banister as I walked down some stairs. It bent outward and the window breaker/screw that holds the pocket clip came loose. I have bent the clip back to normal but the window breaker/screw requires a special tool to tighten. I have yet to put it back together. So be aware that the pocket clip does have a fairly large lip.

FYI: I have ordered two of these so far and the knife seems to typically come out of the box pretty stiff (in regards to the opening/closing action). Don't worry, loosens to normal after some use. Note: I have opened/closed/used mine a ton so far and it hasn't loosened so much that it seems too loose.

Great knife, great price.
A nice budget folder.

A nice knife, especially considering the low price. It's a large and hefty knife, probably not the kind of knife to carry everyday into an office job. I think it would be more suited for yard work and camping activities. The action was stiff, when new out of the box. Initially, it was a two handed effort to release the lock and close the blade. But with a small adjustment to the pivot screw, it now flips open easily and smoothly. Either the release spring is breaking in or my hand has gotten stronger, but now I can release the lock one handed. The knife has nice grippy scales with some mild ergonomics. I wear a size extra large glove, so I prefer a handle that fills up my hand. Smaller hands might find this knife problematic The blade came reasonably sharp, but most I plan to work on it a bit. Let's be realistic, a lot of the savings in a budget knife is from minimizing the effort expended in sharpening.
The only negative is that the lock release could be taller, another millimeter or two would make it much easier to operate. That's main reason for docking one star.
Very good, not great.

I bought one as a gift for a friend who is left handed. The Benchmade-like lock and release is perfect for him. The blade is thick and wide, but not terribly long. It came with a very nice cutting edge. The blade is supposed to be 440c stainless, but I am never sure of Chinese claims. I wouldn't know the difference if they used a lesser 440 steel - and they know it. But I loved my old Buck knife from the '70's and it was plain 440. The scales (grip panels) are really nice and easy to grab.

Actually, I liked this knife so much, I bought one for myself. I had to use some tuff glide ("dry lube" that goes on wet, then dries) to get the first one to open smoothly. The second one was fine right out of the box, opening with just a flick of the wrist. The blade lock is rock solid. No play on either knife.

On the down side, the pocket clip is only sort of reversible for a lefty - if you can figure out a spanner to fit the four holes on what is supposed to be the window breaker. No tool included. Said window breaker is tiny, tiny, tiny. I think it might break you bedroom window, but not your car window. Lastly, the scales are green. Why, I don't know. The knife will be carried inside my pocket with a shiny piece of steel hanging out, so it can't be for camouflage. A nice black would have been more to my tastes. Speaking of useless stuff. The knife comes with a black bag with drawstrings. Again, I have no idea why. Hey Ganzo. Lose the bag and put in a tool to reverse the pocket clip.

All in all, it is a very good knife for the price. Just because it has a benchmade style locking system, don't expect benchmade quality. Still, it is a very good, although not quite excellent carry knife.
Haters are going to hate.

People that dismiss Chinese products as crap are, simply put, missing out and have delusions of grandeur. As previous posters have mentioned, the people that would dismiss this knife because it was made in China, for sure own plenty of Chinese made products but they're not knives. They're their shoes, TVs, phones or basically put probably over 50% of their electronics.

To put my experience in perspective, I've been carrying knives for 30+ years, use them daily and have a fair collection as you can imagine. Yep, my collection includes the usual "classics" from Spyderco, Kershaw, CRKT and Benchmade but I never settle and keep buying more. I do not discriminate by price, make or country of origin. I try not to buy crap, sometimes I do but this time but I didn't this time. So with that said, on to the knife.

$15 is what this cost me and I couldn't be more pleased.

One thing about this knife that is instantly noticeable is that it's heavy. Like really heavy but not without good reason. No, the liners aren't milled but that's not it. No, american materials aren't lighter, that's not it either. What it is, is the huge chunk of 440c in place of a regular folders blade. This is by far the thickest blade I've seen on any folder of this size and it's fantastic. It fairly obvious once you pick it up and handle it, this thing can take a beating (there's plenty of online abuse reviews on it already to prove this).

The scales on the knife are great. They provide excellent grip due to the relief and the fact the handle is really wide to hide the aforementioned behemoth blade. The gimping on the spine helps contribute to a solid grip too. The ramp where the gimping is could be a little more aggressive but it's really close to being spot on.

As far as lockup goes there's zero movement and there wasn't when i got it. However, this is one thing I've learned about Ganzo's. They need tuned (fiddled / messed with). If you don't do it right you're probably going to get lateral movement. If you don't do it at all the axis lock springs are way too tight and deployment is going to be stiff. To do this, make sure you have a T6, T8 and blue locktite, then look up what to do online if you can't figure it out (really simple stuff).

The clip. I like the clip itself, it's substantial, sturdy and deep carry. Right handed, point up is the way all my knives are configured and the G720 comes configured in that manner. However, you cannot change this due to the glass breaker and the need for some odd 4 pin tool that I don't own. So for me, it's not a big deal but I can see this being an issue for others.

Before picking up a few (6) Ganzos lately - I'm fairly new to them. I had never had a knife in 440C and now I cannot think of a reason why more people don't use it for budget line knives. It takes and edge really well and seem to out last AUS8 and 8Cr13MoV as far as retention goes. Don't get me wrong, I haven't sat there with cardboard and "cut test" the thing, that's just not me but I've noticed over my cheaper domestics (some of the spydercos and kershaws are made in china though) it really does hold an edge longer.

This really is a no brainier if you need a larger folder for heavy use - a great work or truck knife (esp with the glass breaker). It's not going to make a lot of people happy for EDC, it's a little large and heavy for that. Like playing with knives? Something about the weight of the blade make this knife really fun to flick open and let fall close. When not in use it lives on my desk at home and is used as a stress ball. Make sure you 'tune' the thing first though, otherwise it'll make you miserable and thumbs hurt. For $15 and 5 minutes of your time though, it's oh so satisfying.
