While by the numbers the foam earplugs should be about as good I don't find them nearly as quiet. This does the best job of quieting noisy tools of anything I have tried. I didn't recognize my wife talking to me when I was wearing them (I heard a voice but the TV was on, I didn't recognize it was her and not the TV.) While these are supposedly for shooters I bought them for using a jackhammer and it was not at all objectionable to listen to.

I have large ears, these barely fit around them. Someone with really big ears might have a problem.

I originally intended to purchase Leightning L3 hearing protectors, which I understood to have the highest NRR on the market (31 dB, I believe).

I was surprised to find two new products, a "G&F 34 dB Highest NRR" and a "Fnova 34dB Highest NRR" hearing protectors. Since both seemed superior to the Leightning L3's, I purchased one of each of these, instead of the L3's, along with replacement pads for an L3 hearing protector which I already had.

When I received the G&F and the Fnova hearing protectors, I was surprised to see in the Attenuation Data table printed on each carton, that the NRR for each product was clearly marked 31 dB, not 34 dB as advertised.

In other respects: The two units seem to be the same identical product, other than the plastic color, and the printing of the brand name. The G&F unit I received has a permanently crimped or creased pad on one of the muffs, possibly a manufacturing defect, or from being crushed too tightly in the package. My guess is that this anomaly will not reduce the usability, but will probably cause the pad to tear along the crease and fail prematurely.

Both products seem to do the job, but based on their own box labeling, and contrary to their descriptions on Amazon's website, are NOT superior to the Leightning L3's.

The descriptions of these products on Amazon's website should be corrected, because the "34 dB Highest NRR" is simply false, based on the manufacturers' own data table. (A 3dB difference between the two ratings may seem like a small number, but in fact represents a two to one difference in sound energy.)

Had I known that the ratings for these hearing protectors were, in reality, the same as for the Leightning L3's, I probably would have purchased two more of these as I originally intended.

I needed two pairs of muffs for the range and bought this pair and the ClearArmor 141001 to compare them. With these cheaper made-in-china off-brand products, there will often be multiple brands using the same Chinese OEM with only the label being different. I can say that these are definitely two different designs, but there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference in the sturdiness or noise reduction for them. I swapped them back and forth and could tell that the pitch dampening profile was different (ie one blocks out certain pitches better than the other), but the overall effect wasn't subjectively better in either case. both have held up to multiple trips to the range and being stuffed into a duffel without falling apart, and both provide welcome relief from the sound of the overpowered hand cannons that certain range patrons favor.

My recommendation between these two is to buy whichever looks the best to you and/or is the cheapest.

5 stars for noise reduction. Minus one star for being a bit on the tight side.

Impressive sound deadening (better than the old pair I had from a different manufacturer), but these headphones are a bit on the tight side. I wore them continuously for 4 1/2 hours today on my first real test. At one point, they felt a bit uncomfortable where they pressed against one of the legs of my glasses. A quick readjustment and they felt fine the rest of the day. More importantly though, they made a very noisy workshop a much more tolerable place to be. Obviously, they must be tight to ensure a good seal around your ears. There is a generous cushion around the ear covers to minimize (but not always eliminate) discomfort.

These work wonderful. I went out this past weekend to shoot my .308 cal rifle. Excelent fit, great protection. Im satified and will be ordering 2 more for my shooting group.
Update: I ordered 3 more and my son wants to get 2 for him and his wife.
