I have gone through so many wine keys in the 8 months I've been a server in fine dining restaurant where table side bottle service is a must. I'm sometimes opening $400 bottles of wine so having a reliable, effective, and sturdy wine key is a must.
My last wine key had the groove in the corkscrew and I found it difficult to get it to bite into the cork and keep it straight one handed. This one does not have that groove and it goes into a cork seamlessly and almost effortlessly. It's like butter. It also doesn't move or wiggle at all making it very stable.
The description says that the handle is soft touch, but I don't find that it is what typical soft touch would be. Though it is very stable in my hand and feels sturdier and less slippery opening chilled white bottles.
I have only two issues with this wine key. First, I wish the blade was sharper. I find myself having to really press into the foil unusually hard to cut it, even then, I have to use the tip of the blade to really dig into the foil to get it to peel back after pulling it up in one cut toward the top of the cork.
Second, the black paint on the double hinge wears off to reveal the silver of the metal underneath. With constant use, this happens pretty quickly. It's not the nicest looking to present at the table. So even though it's the best wine key I've used and opens bottles without a hitch (besides the cutting blade), I'm going to have to buy another one soon.
If I could put the cutting tool from my last wine key onto this one and have the hinges stay black, this would be the perfect wine key.

Best Wine Opener I've Seen

I'm a commercial winemaker and I pull a lot of corks. This is the best cork puller I've seen - sturdy, comfortable, and smooth. I bought a bunch for gifts.
Good

This is NOT a cheap opener from the big box stores!

This is something that can easily be pocketed and used by professionals. It requires practice and technique. Once you learn how to use it, you recognize the big, silly openers sold at the big box stores as trash.
