Between living in an area that is prone to nasty weather and traveling a good part of the year, this is a perfect addition to my emergency kits. Small, portable and powerful are all must qualities in an emergency radio.
Modern day technology is great, but when the power goes out, you will be left disconnected from important messages and notices. With this, that will not be an issue.
The option to either charge it via USB or solar power is an advantage. Even if you don't use it often, I would advise you charge it occasionally to make sure that you will have power when needed and won't have to rely cranking it.

Its compact design makes for ease of packing and not needed to worry if it will have enough juice the entire trip.
