Worked Great Until It Didn't

The product worked great at first, but I seldom used it (lasted 3 years) . I put a CD in to rip a soundtrack, then the Burner bricked, trapping my precious CD inside. I tore it apart, finding a Mini USB Type C cable plugged into a Mini USB Type C Motherboard connector. All that unnecessary plastic with the bends and curves got in the way as I attempted to use an alternate cable ("Maybe a bad cable", I thought). Snipped plastic and a new cable later, still nothing. At this point, I give up and demolish the rest of the device and retrieve my CD.
Update: Despite all my actions, the device still functions. I noticed a loose connector between the motherboard and disc reader. I reinserted it a little, then plugged it into my PC. I worked briefly (computer recognized it as two Drives) before the connectors popped out again.
Conclusion: The MythsTec External Bluray DVD works okay, but check out for loose connectors should issues occur. Loose disc reader connection to motherboard may cause connectivity issues (PC fails to recognize the drive). The casing is somewhat obstructive, inevitably kinking the included USB Type C cable connected via motherboard. A small redesign of the casing could improve the overall product. Fastening or securing the disc reader connector could reduce further issues.

I already have a portable DVD writer, but this one writes and plays Blu-rays AND DVDs! The instructions are also helpful because it provides links to where you can download DVD/Blu-Ray reading/writing software. This device was easily recognized by my laptop. After installing the free 30 day trial of Cyberlink's PowerDVD, I was able to test it by playing a few Blu-Ray movies. It worked great! The operation was smooth and at an acceptable volume for a portable drive. It also played DVD movies without any issues. Playback for DVD and Blu-Ray movies was smooth without any buffering issues.
I also was able to power the MthsTec drive with just one USB cable (the one included on the bottom of the drive). I was able able to switch to the USB C cable that was included to recognize and power my drive. One tip - DON'T try plugging in the included USB C cable and the regular USB cable because only one of the attached included cables is meant to be plugged into your computer while this is in operation.
As far as writing/burning DVDs or Blu-Rays, I have yet to test that functionality out, but I'll update my review if there are any issues. I'm going to assume that there won't be any problems.

I used an old Toshiba Satellite C655 / i3 / Windows 7 / USB 2 laptop to test this external Bluray drive.
As soon as the Bluray drive was connected Windows automatically installed the driver without any problems at all. I loaded a Bluray movie disc and it was detected by Windows immediately. However as this laptop does not have a Bluray player I was not able to play the movie. Instead I loaded a DVD and was able to play the movie with no problems at all.
I burned a DVD with this drive without any problems. I didn't have a bluray disc nor the software on this old laptop (or PC) to burn, however I don't expect any issues.
If you're wanting to add a Bluray disc drive to your laptop or PC this would be a great choice.
