Instructions did not match with function for installation
Jeremy Young✓ Verified Purchase•December 21, 2023
The recommendation of the instructions is to connect both USB to the pc for power and data transfer. Either can be used if your computer has sufficient power, most do, for the device to run. When I attached both USBs it could not register the unit. When I connected with only one USB it seamlessly installed the device and was usable instantly.

This drive will play Blu-ray discs ok
I'm not convinced it is Usb 3.0 though.
I opened it up to see what kind of drive was in it, hoping to get lucky with a LG or something but there was no labeling.
The cable that goes to the inside of the case plugs into an adapter board with a plain Mini USB cable.
I'm not an expert but I've never seen Usb 3.0 running on Mini USB on the device side.

An Easy, Convenient Blu-Ray Player

Like most folks, my PC has no Blu-ray/DVD drive. I didn't think I'd ever use it again, but something about recent streaming decisions has me wanting to return to physical media for a bit. I wanted something easy to use, something unobtrusive, and preferably something easy to store. This USB Blu-ray player has checked all three boxes. You plug it in, wait for the drivers to install, and bam! Its running. iTunes had no difficulty detecting and utilizing it and VLC player was a big help when it came to movies.
It works exactly the way I wanted it to. I only have two issues with it. The first issue is the cable. It has a built in cable that has two ends, a USB-A and a USB-C cable. Either works just fine, the cable can be slotted into the underside for easy storage, and it all stays together nice and neat. However, my issue is that I would have preferred to use my own cable. The cable that it comes with is attached directly to the device and is rather short. If I use an extension, the extension cable may not be able to provide enough energy to power the device. I would have liked the option to use my own USB-C/USB-A cable to use the device.
My second issue is the volume. This thing gets kind of loud. If you're listening to the audio with headphones, you probably won't notice it, but if you're using a speaker system, the sound of the drive does compete with air space. It isn't painfully loud, but it certainly is noticeably loud. For some folks, this might be a bigger issue than the cable. It isn't enough for me to remove a star, but it is something I feel that i should mention.
Now, with that said. I'm still very happy with this Blu-ray drive. It has allowed me to return to my old Blu-ray/DVD/CD collection that's long been neglected since the age of streaming really took off and lets me watch films that aren't available online. Physical media is on its way out, so finding blu-rays at garage sales should probably make this extra worth it.

Works great for my CDs

Bought this to be able to play the CD's on my Dell XPS 13, works great for this. Have yet to use it for movies, Blu-ray or otherwise, but wanted to be able to do both. The pocket underneath for the cord is a nice addition, especially with the two types of USB adapter. Overall construction leaves a bit to be desired, but for the price point seems adequate. Might not be great if you're looking to travel with it, but would work just fine for desktop use.
Sturdy For A Portable

I've had other portable USB drives and this is by far the sturdiest I've encountered. No problem on Windows 11. Performance on reading CD, DVD, & Blu-ray (but not 4K Ultra HD) discs is good. It is slightly louder than my other drives, but not a deal breaker. Do plug it into a port directly on your device, and not a USB hub (it likes its power unshared). CD & DVD burns seem to work well (note that burning and playback software is not included with the drive, so plan ahead). I like this drive's portability and performance. I wish they included a travel case for it.
