I was looking forward to getting to sleep in a bed again. Degenerative disc disease has made me sleep in a chair for 20 years and I was told about this from a cruise line. Wanted to try it out before the sailing, and be able to sleep in a bed again.
When I received it it was shrink wrapped and out in a tiny box. It enlarged nicely. Problem is one of the zippers has a bent pull and it won't work, so we couldn't get it into the shape I needed.
Now I have to send it back"¦ no problem"¦ it's Amazon ( I had made sure it was free returns) call Amazon and they say to be returned it has to be in the packaging it came in "¦. Which is 1/3 of the size it currently is!
All of this for a defective product.!

OK, so everything in the above review was true. And if by chance you get one that's defective, it is awful to try to return, that being said, I went on a cruise that had back Maxx as an availability. I ended up having the best sleep, I've ever had, at least in the last 25 years. So I went ahead and bought another back Maxx and had it sent to my daughters house in Florida, so that when I went down there, I would have it to use. I have been ordering recliners from Rent A Center for 23 years when we travel , and now all I need to do is have her bring the special bag that I bought for the back max to go in (with the back max, obviously,) to the resort, and I no longer have to order a chair! I sleep wonderfully, and I no longer have the fees For paying for the recliner. This thing is worth it's weight in gold! Travel is now so much easier!

I am a big guy. More than 6'1" and nearly 300 pounds. I have chronic back pain stemming from a few old military injuries. Combined with several extra pounds and sleep apnea, you can quickly see how much fun I am at sleep-overs.

I have disc herniation and compression in my L5S1 region and radiculopathy in my legs stemming from the damage. I also have damage to my right shoulder.

I had resorted to sleeping on our very nice reclining couch in the family room as my only way to not wake up in pain. If I laid flat, I would wake after only a couple of hours in too much pain to go back to sleep and I would pay for it for a day or so. But, my wife got to be a little sore about me never sleeping in bed with her, so we started looking at adjustable beds.

Aside from the obvious cost associated, it seemed that you had to pick between both people agreeing on a position, or a bottomless abyss in the middle of the bed between the two separately adjustable sides.

So I kept up my couch life.

Then I saw this.

Deciding, despite the expense, that it was worth a shot, we ordered it. (The big one, of course, for reasons previously stated) We figured we could turn it into some sort of an overpriced toy for my 6 kids if all else failed.

Now, I want to be clear, this isn't a miracle. At least not for me. Sometimes I need the stretching and decompression that comes with a 90 degree or more bend at the waist, and this isn't going to do that. But most days I sit at work, and that leaves me in a pretty good spot to just need 45 degrees or so.

On those nights, I can climb ungracefully onto this mound of dense foam (there is no way to gracefully mount this. Period. If you claim otherwise I need to see a video as evidence) and I can get into a comfortable position and sleep next to my wife (albeit, several inches higher than her) and I can wake up basically no worse for the wear.

I set it at the highest middle angle and the lower upper body incline. The higher upper angle made it hard for me to fall asleep.

On most nights, this is a game changer. Allowing me to sleep in my bed next to my wife and not wake up with pain. A feat I haven't been able to accomplish in more than a year without meds. As a bonus, my 2 year old thinks flopping on it is the most fun thing in the world.

It folds up easy and can be put out of the way. I will say that you want to wrap it in a sheet of some sort to protect it, and the grip material makes awful noises against a wooden headboard, so I keep one pillow behind me as a buffer.

But this has given me a large portion of my life back, and while it falls short of miracle cure, it is certainly worth what I spent for what it has given me back.

I recommend this to anyone suffering from similar issues who wants to avoid buying an adjustable bed.

Do I like this item? Oh, heck no!!! It's bulky and bumpy, and you can forget about ever again making your bed nice and neat!
But I didn't buy it for aesthetics. I bought it because I have osteopenia and sciatica. I bought it because I simply couldn't get to sleep and stay asleep without pains shooting all over my legs and hips.
THIS!! This has been a huge help!!! Took a while to get used to, especially sleeping on my back. But I stuck it out and it has been worth it. I can sleep. I can wake up without pain. I can walk so much further without pain.
So I had to make a decision ... bed that looks like hotel staff made it or pain-free night and days?

I had abdominal surgery and double mastectomy with reconstruction. A 12 hour surgery and came home 5 days later. The first night I could not sleep! I was so tired but no longer had the hospital bed. Trying to lay my legs flat pulled the stitches in my abdomen. I also couldn't get the right support I needed behind my back and head. I was a miserable, crying mess. So I started looking.

I found all different kinds of body wedges available on Amazon. The one I liked was the most expensive one- of course- this one. It wasn't a whole lot more but I wanted to know is it worth an extra $50.
The BackMax was a bit more than most sets. The reviews said it was worth it. The other thing I wanted was to make sure my arms could lay comfortably next to me. I didn't want to end up on this narrow body wedge that I kept sliding off to the left or right. I loved that instead of the standard 20" I could buy a big roomy 28". No doubt my arms would be fine.

Let me tell you. It looked to be exactly what I needed.
I was lucky and was able to get one the next day. I didn't realize there were 9 different ways I could configure these wedges.

I was so excited when it arrived. As soon as I got it I configured it to keep me in the "taco" position. This makes the lowest spot your bottom and doesn't force you to stretch your body straight. It gives you support and keeps your legs and feet elevated. It places your body in a 120Ëš angle "“ the most relaxed position for your heart, body, and nervous system.

The Back & Torso Wedge elevates the upper body to ease digestion, snoring, and sinus congestion.

The Knee & Leg Wedge reduce stress on lower back and elevate the legs to the approximate level of the heart to aid proper circulation.

This set saved me. I was in so much pain. Having the BackMax I was able to sleep comfortably and that made it much easier on me to deal with everything I was going through.

Things I really appreciated about the BackMax.
So easy to reconfigure even with having to unzip and zip back up, good quality materials. Good quality foam. It's very light. It did not have any smell at all- no dye or manufacturing smell. The cover is so soft. It is a Sherpa cover.

Being in pain and feeling miserable, this set was comfortable and cozy that I looked forwarding to getting back in bed.

Bet your wondering if it was worth it? ABSOLUTELY!
This was well worth paying a little more for. You need to remember it's not like they are inflating the price. The extra money is in the product. You've got way more product when you increase the width by 8 inches!! This is one of those "you get what you pay for".

If anyone I know has to go through what I went through I am going to tell them before surgery make sure you get you BackMax Pillow Wedges!

In the paperwork I saw they have a travel bag. I'll definitely have to buy that next.

Thank you for this wonderful product. Nobody wants to have cancer, or wants to have surgery. I'm so appreciative of having the BackMax to help me get through it all!! The BackMax was like having a security blanket when I was a kid. I knew when I was hurting I could go slide into bed onto my BackMax and everything would be alright!!

I bought this product in Dec 2022 for my 360 lipo, and bbl post op procedure. After looking at dozens of YouTube videos and trying almost all reasonable methods suggested there, this is the one and only product that made me sleep well and feel very comfortable post op and no fat was compromised from my procedure because even though you're lying on your back, there wasn't any real pressure on those areas because of how your body is positioned on the pillows. I only was supposed to use this product for 6 weeks. However, Its now July and I'm literally addicted to sleeping on it. Yes it's been just that awesome for me!

Also, I've always wanted to be a back sleeper because I naturally used to always sleep on my side with my hands tucked under my face and when I awoke each morning, I didn't like seeing lines of demarcation on my face from my hands being under my face or the bed impressions on my face. Well after having side joint pains, and seeing older people in my family who have slept that way for decades and now the sides of their faces have permanent heavy indents, deep wrinkles and demarcation areas from sleeping like that (especially on the side they sleep on the most), I've really been trying like hell to stop myself from sleeping on my sides like that. And this wonderful product has finally resolved that issue for me! And I just feel well rested, my under eyes are no longer swollen when I awake, no lines on my face in the morning when I awake because i no longer sleep on my sides because this product provides good head elevation while you're resting and its prevents side sleeping. I experience true beauty rest indeed.

Furthermore as an avid weight lifter I used to have an aching left hip issue. Seen a sports doctor for it but to no avail. I don't have that issue anymore because with this product, I no longer sleep on my sides which evidently was the culprit causing my aching joint issues when I thought all along it was the heavy weights I was lifting. When I first started using this, I'd wake up with numb arms because blood wasn't circulating properly during the night so I started putting a pillow on each side of my body to prop my arms up so my arms would be elevated with the rest of my body and that quickly resolved the issues. I must warn you though that if you fall in love with this product like I have, it's gonna be very hard for you to travel and try to sleep in regular beds. I tried that a few weeks ago (because I couldn't take this huge thing with me on vacation of course) and it was an absolute nightmare trying to now sleep the regular way. I'm not sure how to resolve this because I definitely don't want to lug this huge thing around with me on trips. Lastly your partner might also not like you having this in the bed with you because it is huge. I don't have that problem, but it is something to consider if you have someone sleeping with you nightly.
