Sturdy Support for Surgery Recovery and Lounging
Mel✓ Verified Purchase•January 29, 2024
I got this for my husband for recovery from surgery. I also bought another brand that was similar in style and price but had 5 pieces (it came with separate pillows for lumbar & head/neck). He has used this one more. He said it's a bit more firm and supportive. He also likes that it is a bit wider and taller than the other set. He is about 6' tall. It also seems like it will probably hold up better and last longer than the other set.
The velcro on the sides for the head/lumbar pillow is a very well thought out addition. It works to keep the pillow from sliding around. If you're not using the velcro, it has straps to cover it so it doesn't snag things.
I took the pillows out of the box and they expanded to normal size and shape in minutes. I still let it rest over night, but could have used it right away. The other brand took nearly a week) to expand.
I love the super-soft velvety material on the side of the pillow covers. I wish I could purchase covers that had the entire top and sides made of this dreamy material. I noticed some of the product images in the description look like they had gray velvet covers, but I haven't been able to find them for purchase anywhere. I also hope the other spare covers come back in stock at some point on Amazon. The white material is okay. I like it better than I thought I would, but I wish there were other color options.
Additionally, he isn't supposed to lift more than 5 lbs or a gallon of milk after surgery. The separate pieces in this set are all light enough that he can move and adjust them himself. The product weight on a lot of the more traditional adjustable wedge-shaped pillows is more than he is supposed to lift.
This is a great purchase and would definitely recommend it. I may need to buy one for myself, too!

Been amazing after shoulder surgery

I ordered this set in advance of a labral repair surgery because I didn't have a recliner (and I heard, correctly, that a reclined position is the way to go for max comfort after shoulder surgery). I'm a week out from the operation and these pillows have been invaluable for a number of reasons.
SUPPORT
The memory foam is quite firm, which provides great support for both the shoulder and (perhaps more importantly, I learned) the back. Carrying your arm around in a sling all day is rough on the back and rear deltoid muscles, and the main pillow has been excellent for supporting and relieving those areas. For me, I don't find them too firm at all as some reviews have said, but as a caveat my mattress has always been quite firm with a memory foam topper, so these pillows are like an extension of bed for me. If you're used to super soft bedding, these may take some getting used to.
COMFORT
The pillow covers are super soft and I have yet to get too warm after sleeping/resting on them for hours at a time. They're also removable for easy washing (which I haven't yet done, so we'll see how easy that is with one hand, but in theory that's a great feature). My only comfort addition has been to add one of my own pillows above the set's neck pillow so that both neck and head are comfortably supported, but this has only been necessary in certain pillow configurations. The neck pillow is quite comfortable.
VERSATILITY
This has been the biggest benefit of the set so far. Rather than being confined to one chair (which is especially nice if you live in a small space with no room for said chair), you can turn pretty much any space into a recliner. After surgery I stayed at my boyfriend's house for several days, sleeping on his couch, and the pillows were easily adjusted for sleeping, reading, watching tv, any sedentary activity I could want. You can get the back + support pillows to comfortably support you from a vertical position all the way down to nearly horizontal, and the leg pillow is easy to adjust (or remove if you want) thanks to the non-slip surface on the bottom. When I came home, I just transferred the setup to my bed and voila, comfort city there too. Now I rotate the main pillow between my bed and my couch so I can sit wherever I want. Also, pro tip, the leg pillow, when set on one's lap, makes a very convenient surface for placing a book to read while reclined, and flipping it over to the non-slip bottom provides a grippy surface to hold an iPad at an incline.
One caveat to the above - the pillows are quite wide, which is good for support and comfort, but may be a problem depending on the size of your couch/bed. They were fine on my boyfriend's couch since his seatback cushions are removable, and in my bed since it's a queen (room for both of us even with the pillows), but if you have a small couch (like mine, with non-removable cushions) or a small bed with two people, it might be cramped.
Another thing if you're getting these for post-op purposes, you'll probably still need a pillow of some kind to support your operative arm even with this set. These pillows basically just fill the role of a mobile and configurable but armrest-less recliner - they're not quite a one-stop shoulder relief solution.

Very sturdy and helpful

I am 5ft tall, and it has created a bit of a challenge with all these pieces. I use the big wedge without the pillow attachment, and I have to use a rolled up towel for neck support. The buldge is too high, I really wish there wasn't a buldge at the top. The knee wedge is great, but also too big for me.
The wedges are very sturdy, plenty stiff but soft. I use this mainly for back support in bed to sit up due to breathing issues and a slipped disk.

Great product to use after shoulder surgery

This product is well made, comfortable and was perfect to use on the couch, in the car and in bed after shoulder surgery. I'm glad we bought this and not a recliner. It came with 2 vacuum bags for easy storage.
Not as good as we hoped

There are alot of pieces. They come almost flat and when you take them out of the package they are supposed to inflate. Think of those big bags you suck the air out of with a vacuum to put under your bed. That type of thing. One of the pieces never did inflate and another one sort of didn't. Not entirely. The big pieces work ok but storage is a problem because they are huge.
I feel they are overpriced.
All that said they can be a firm backrest and the pieces can be arranged in different ways to accommodate different uses.
