I purchased this meter as a back-up. This is an inexpensive multimeter that comes with a few extra features.

Beyond the typical VDC, VAC, mA, Amps, Resistance and Capacitance readings, it also provides Non-Contact AC Voltage (NCV) and Live Wire AC Voltage detection. The construction is solid. The display backlighting is strong and works well.

Note that the NCV detection is fidgety, though. Placing the NCV detector (located at the top of the meter) near an operational 120 VAC outlet, the meter would reliably indicate a "Low" AC voltage (green light) when it is near the outlet. However, it takes a lot of tiny meter position adjustments to get the NCV to indicate "High" AC voltage (red light) near the "hot" line of the AC outlet. The NCV operation is unreliable enough that I may just pull out the probes and plug them in. I subtracted a star from the final product rating as a result.

I have included pictures of the meter's contents. The red/black meter probes come with a protective cap over the banana jacks - these will probably be lost within the first month of use. The meter probes are normally fully insulated, exposing a small sharp tip for probing circuitry. The same probes also have a removable sleeve (shown for the black probe) that can be pulled off to provide a longer "pin sticker" probe to insert into the back of Molex type connectors for readings.

The 2xAAA batteries were already installed into the meter on delivery, with no protective tape to prevent electrical connection to the meter. So, I have followed the recommendations of other reviewers, and have replaced the installed cheap alkaline batteries with new Duracells just in case the original batteries may fail quickly (and possibly leak).

I needed to replace a cheap $5 meter that was not accurate and didn't last long. This meter had the best ratings in this price range. Seems sturdy and fairly accurate. Hopefully it lasts longer than that el cheapo HF meter, that resides in the dumpster.

This does appear to be a good solid meter, but I am quite disappointed that it did not come with a case, hence the 4-star rating. It needs a case AstroAI. As far as I can see, however, this will be a great replacement meter for my 30+ year old Radio Shack model, which finally bit the dust. Yes, there are a lot of models out there, that have a lot more options, most of which I am clueless about and really don't have a need for.... This model seems to fall right into my limited realm of needs, without a lot of extra mumbo-jumbo I do like the light and the kickstand. Nice additions.....BUT, it needs a case...........

I bought this to replace an older meter. This works great and the functions are easy to understand. I use mine to test all the batteries that we wear out. At the moment, I'm using it to track down a parasitic draw.

This is replacing a radio shack multimeter I had for decades. It served me well but the time came when you could no longer rely on it to function. I think the little sockets that the probes fit in started to wear out to the point where the unit just wouldn't work anymore. I'm getting older so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a new multimeter. I looked around carefully and decided to buy this one. I figured for less than 20 bucks. I wouldn't be getting much. When I first started using it I was shocked {joke} at how well the unit worked and was designed. I like the fact that you can hold it up to a wire and without even using any of the probes. Tell if it's a live wire or not. Other than that this thing is pretty well constructed. I have no qualms whatsoever about the plastic they used or the quality of the components. Well made unit and I'm impressed!
