We bought this to dig fence posts around tree roots areas. If that's what you buy it for, watch out the length. Fence posts holes should be at least 21" deep. This auger won't serve you well because the handle reaches the ground surface at 19.5" inches so you need to dig by hand the last 2"+ for your post (which is also the hardest dirt layer).
It is handy if you need to dig by tree roots because a motor auger will kick you hard if it encounters a root and might not even fit in between the roots due to the circumference of the auger tip.
Pros and cons. of a handy but quite short tool.
I wish they would provide the option to extent the auger with an additional tube piece to click on or take off, so depending on the depth you need, you have 1 tool for different jobs.

This is a sturdy and robust manual auger. It's about 2' tall, portable and lightweight. I laugh at the reviews that complain it's not long enough. Hey, read the description instead of complaining because you didn't! And it clearly says it's 3" in diameter. So if you need a 6-8" one, why buy this one then complain. Same with the bad back people. It's a garden auger!! What, are you going to drop your seedlings and bulbs into the hole from 5' up?
I pack this auger with me into the woods so I can build semi-permanent and permanent bushcraft structures. It's perfect. Do not hesitate to buy it if a 24" manual auger with a 3" diameter is what you are looking for.

As the description and other reviewers had mentioned, the auger is rather short. I bought it to mainly drill holes in my garden for planting and it does the job nicely. I have compacted sandy soil that's hard to dig through and this makes the job more manageable. The hardest part was getting past the lawn. The holes it drilled are plenty big enough for most bulbs and maybe small poles. Unless your fencing pieces are very thin, I would recommend a larger auger (like the one offered through the Amazon UK store). Since it dug through garden sand/soil well, I might have to bring this to the beach to make staking the umbrella a bit easier.
