Very nice rack. Recommend.
GTJ✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 25, 2023
I've had the rack for just under a week; my son and I have used it several times. I'll first address a few negatives I read about in other reviews:
1. The packaging was not torn, all parts were accounted for and in tact.
2. There is no rust inside the posts.
3. The ends of the posts were not bent and fit snugly on to the top and bottom frames.
4. The front/back holes all align (may be because I inserted the safety bars prior to tightening nuts per the instructions and other reviewers).

The rack itself took me 50 minutes to assemble by myself. I do recommend a second set of hands as there are certain steps that would be easier, but it can be done by one person. I also highly recommend using ratchet/socket rather than the provided box wrench. I didn't track time installing the lat pulldown attachment, but I'd estimate about the same amount of time. Instructions for the lat pulldown could be better. I had to redo a couple steps after getting it wrong, but it's not rocket surgery and anybody should be able to figure it out.

A few things that may not have been fully covered in previous reviews:
1. The rack does not appear to be powder coated, instead it feels like a good enamel. No idea how durable it will be but it's a nice gloss (yellow) and matte (black) finish and racking the bar doesn't contact the yellow paint so should hold up fine.
2. Holes are ~4 inches center to center with just under 3 inches between holes.
3. I can confirm inside distance between posts is indeed 26 inches.
4. Posts measure 2 3/8 inch square.
5. The lat pulldown holds 2 inch plates but it appears the bar is covered by a sleeve that I think can be removed to use 1 inch (but not 100% certain as I'm using 2 inch plates).

Likes:
1. Looks really great. Better than I expected.
2. Very sturdy. I'm only lifting up to 250 but in my range this rack feels very sturdy and safe. I don't do muscle ups or kipping pullups but with regular pullups it's rock solid.
3. I was pleasantly surprised that the accessories (j hooks, safety bars, dip handles, plate holders) are lined with some kind of felt-like material which will help preserve the yellow finish. The accessory hangers are not lined.
4. I highly recommend a set of the $15 hangers. Works perfect for storing a 7 foot Olympic bar, holding collars while changing plates, jump rope, etc.
5. Lat pulldown works great. I haven't used it much yet but so far I'm glad I bought it.
6. Dip bars are at a perfect width for me. Your mileage may vary.

Dislikes:
2. The holes at 4 inch center is really the only thing I really don't like about the rack. That said, bench press is the biggest potential point of negative impact. However in my case, I bought the Fitness Gear Pro bench from Dick's (which is a really great bench) which puts the safety bars at a perfect height for me. So the hole spacing depends on the bench you use and how thick a chest you have. That said, if my bench didn't work I was prepared to install a plywood platform or risers under the base to raise it to the correct height.
2. The only other negative I can think of is the larger non standard post size limits purchase of accessories from HulkFit. That said, I prefer the larger post size compared to the 2x2 racks, their accessories are nice, and the only downside risk I see if they stop selling them at some point.

Overall, I am very happy with this rack and definitely recommend.
Excellent mid-range rack

To properly frame this review: I am 5' 11", 180 lbs and use the rack for your standard lifts with no more than 250 lbs.

For the price point, this power rack is excellent. It checks all of the major boxes for my use: solid construction (see note below on lateral stability), enough adjustment points (rack holes are on 10 cm centers), suitable space inside the rack, pull-up bar has multiple grips (see note below), all of the accessories and attachments are excellent, and the paint finish looks good.

Assembly: Assembly was rather easy though the instructions were not very thorough. HulkFit may have changed their design recently because all pieces seems symmetrical so there were no issues with incorrect installation. The included nuts were of the nylon-lock type which was nice; however, I purchased some washers to use in assembly to help protect the finish on the rack. An extra set of hands would have been nice and a step-stool is almost required, but assembly was simple.

Stability: Overall the rack is very stable for most lift cases. It is solid fore and aft; however, it is slightly less stable in the lateral direction. The only time I have realized this is when doing pull-ups. I don't feel that this is a big deal, but it is not as rock-solid laterally as it is fore and aft. Some diagonal cross members connecting the vertical posts to the lower cross members would solve this problem.

Sizing: In my opinion, this rack hits the sweet spot for a home gym when it comes to size. There is enough room on the inside of the rack and the pull-up bar is high enough yet the footprint is manageable in my basement.

Accessories/Attachments: With the base rack, I have the lat pulldown attachment, j-hooks, round dip bars, flat dip bars, and two sets of weight pegs. There are enough adjustment holes that I can easily mount all of the attachments in usable positions or out of the way for stowage. Those that are stowed (round and flat dip bars) are easily placed in their useful positions with no rearranging of the other accessories. All of the accessories mounted to the vertical posts are sturdy and have thin felt on the inside of the attachments to protect the finish on the vertical posts.

Condition: The condition of the rack on arrival was acceptable. There were a few scratches, chips, and blemishes in the finish but nothing that ruins the aesthetic of the rack and nothing that should impact functionality.

While I am overall satisfied with the rack (especially considering the price point) there are a few features that would make this rack feel more premium vice an entry-level:
1.) All of the grips are either basic metal tubing (round dip bars, some pull up grips) or have plastic grips over the metal tubing (lat pull down and row attachments, main pull up bar grip). Knurling on these pieces would give these accessories a better feel and overall improve the utility of the rack.
2.) The j-hooks and flat dip bars do not have any wear pads. Wear pads would be nice to help protect the finish on the accessories or the finish on your barbell. I expect the finish on the j-hooks and flat dip bars to be damaged by the knurling on my barbell so I plan to install some UHMW wear pads. However there is one thing of note with this possible DIY fix: the retaining lip on the j-hooks and flat dip bars are relatively small and adding the wear pads will only reduce their effectiveness. Adding wear pads may not be acceptable from a safety perspective.
3.) Small lateral sway braces would ensure rock-solid lateral stability of the rack.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this power rack -- great functionality and value.
Good rack for the money, needs extra work for best stability.

The media could not be loaded. I just assembled the Hulkfit Power Cage. The package arrives in a long 8 foot box wrapped in plastic wrap. The insides are adequately protected except for the ends of the long poles. A few of my end brackets were bent and required some massaging to get back to near straight (see pic). Overall assembly was easy, but to make it right, extra hardware was needed. Read on.

1. I think the cage is worth the money spent. But some extra elbow grease is needed to get it right, especially if you are a little OCD like me.

2. The package was missing one pull up bar grip. I included pics.

3. You will need more than one person for the best results in assembly. The unit was pretty wobbly and not level after assembly and tightening of all bolts. We did use a level during the tightening process. The fit of the upright poles to the base bars and top bars was quite loose. The upright poles connections were too wide. (As I said, some also required re- bending before assembly). I needed to add washers to all of the inside of the connections, and also I added washers to the outside to increase stability. It is still a bit off level but much improved.

The washers improved the lateral stability a lot, but it is still not enough for my liking. I am going to add 90 degree corner stabilizers to the back corners with brackets or bar stock and drilling / bolting them to the inside of the frame. I will post pics of that later on.

Hulkfit may wish to consider adding something like this for lateral stability in the future. As it is, the top and bottom horizontal brace in the back, situated at the top and bottom and bolted horizontally instead of vertically just allows for too much wiggle. It would probably be ok for light weights. But when increasing weights, that lateral instability becomes a safety issue in my opinion.

Some of the J hooks are a bit crooked on the welds, but all the welds appear to be adequate. I wish the J hooks had a bit more of an upward angle, but they appear to be doing their job so far.

Lining up the uprights and ensuring good fit with the safety bars *as you assemble and tighten bolts* results in easy safety bar slide in and out at the end. No issues there. We will be switching those a lot, so that is a relief.

The dip attachments are cool - effective and a welcome addition that increases value.

Also, they offer a set of free J hooks (at least for a limited time) if you post a review. I will update this if they ever get back with me.

I would appreciate it if they would ship me a handlebar grip since one was missing.

Email response has not been great. I emailed them with questions about the missing bar and this review two days ago, and so far all I got was an automated responder. I will update this when they respond again.

This is a decent rack, and at around the $300 dollar mark I expected to have to add some more work to make it right, to my standards. I expect to come in around $50 in additional hardware from Tractor Supply, not counting my elbow grease time. It's a good deal, but the lateral instability / wobble is my biggest criticism. If you are willing to do a little more drilling and bolting with stuff you can get at Tractor Supply, you will be fine. If you aren't as OCD as I am, and you can deal with a little wobble / wiggle in your cage, you will be fine as is.

Four stars for the value, three stars for the quality of the build and the need to put in extra work.

Update: Good news - corner stabilizers that I added have improved the lateral stability to where I am happy. $30 in hardware from Tractor Supply. 12" Steel Mending plates x4, bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts. I used my power drill and metal cutting bits to drill the holes in the frame.

Also good news, Hulkfit got back with me. They are sending the extra J Hooks per their offer.

Bad news: They do not have handlebar grips and can't send me one. I will look at alternatives or just do without.

Edit 1-15-21
Added pics of corner braces in the back. Did all 4 corners and this eliminated all lateral instability concerns. Cage is rock solid now. I highly recommend this modification.

I bought the lat pull down attachment, and here I am in Amazon trying to do a product review on the lat pull down unit. The thing is, Amazon will NOT let me do a separate review. It takes me right to my review of the rack, and there is no way to separate the two orders.

So I will proceed with the review of the Lat Pull Down unit here, hoping that people will be able to find the review buried in the original.

The unit itself is sturdy, and pretty smooth after installation. My sons and I will definitely be able to get a good workout with it. The construction is solid, but a bit rough around the edges. If you want something that will get the job done for lat pulls, rows, tricep pull downs, cable curls, and you have a Hulkfit cage, look no further.

However, you will want a dremel tool on hand in addition to a 17mm socket and a 17mm closed end wrench. The seam where the vertical post comes together is not well machined, and you just might need to grind that lip off in order to let the slide get past it. I will attach a video to show you what I mean. We ended up using a dremel tool and not taking it apart to file it. The dremel worked well to grind off the edge. Then we WD40'd the whole thing and it just has a minimal to no bump as it goes by. Mostly not noticeable now.

If you aren't "handy", you might want to get someone who IS handy to help you assemble it and make some sense of it. We figured it out all right, but on occasion, we had to take a few things apart once or twice to get it right. Just a bolt or two. I say this because the instructions are nearly worthless. You get a few diagrams but they are minimally helpful. And the pictures of where the bolts go are tiny. You have to figure out the cable runs mostly on your own. I included the route in the video. One correction - the top wire goes OUTSIDE the square tube between the pulleys - not through it!

We got it on the Prime Day sale - so I am happy with it and what I paid for it. Expect to put a little elbow grease into it, git-r-done, and you'll be happy to have it as part of your home gym.
Quick and easy assembly

This is a great power rack for the price. The instructions were straight forward and relatively clear. The assembly itself was also very straight forward. As recommended by several other reviewers I did decided to use washers to give the cage some more support. I set up the rack loosely and then tightened all the bolts with a socket drill bit, going in a diagonal pattern to keep everything as squared as possible. I did notice some swaying but am hoping by adding some weight plate pegs and the corresponding weights it will remedy that. Overall I really love this power rack. I have to decided to go ahead and purchase the lat pulldown and several other accessories as well.

UPDATE 09/01/2023

I also purchased the accompanying lat pulldown machine. It was a really quick set up and it works beautiful in conjunction with the power rack. I'm really happy with the quality of the attachment and its overall performance.

I also went ahead and purchased 2 sets of plate holders and safety bars too.
Great Value, easy to set up

I bought this after doing extensive research on different brands. For one, my favorite color is yellow so having a yellow/black rack matches my style. For reference, I am a 130lb 5'7 and my bf is 180lbs 5'10

Set up:
My boyfriend helped me set this up. It was pretty easy and didn't take too long. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because Our only complaint is that the bolts were not separated or marked. They were very close in size to one another so we had to guess which ones went in certain places. We used my bench to set up the top portion of the rack. I had to move my hanging storage up to make sure there's clearance for pull ups. I'd recommend not having anything above this unless you have high ceilings.

Durability:
I am a former power lifter who wanted to be able to workout at home whenever I wanted. By no means am I going for PRs on this. I'm sure I'd be able too. My boyfriend and I had no issues doing pull ups. If you plan on doing power pull ups, this might not be for you because it does shake a little if you are swinging hard.

Value:
For the cost, it was the best option for me. Across everything else you need to buy for a home gym. I was able to reduce my overall costs significantly with this Rack.

Overall, highly recommend this for people who are looking to have a home gym at a more economical cost.
