This is a rather good cage and allows for a a lot of different exercises. Unfortunately it has some pitfalls in primarily two areas:
- If you ever were frustrated with IKEA instructions, this is NOT for you. It can be assembled by a single person (with two areas that are quite difficult if you don't have three arms), but you have to do it with a total of instructions of 8 drawings to put together about 25 parts with about 60 screws. There are no real instructions how to perform certain steps, there are parts shown in the instructions that are as such not included, but need to be put together as subassemblies first, and in some cases the instructions seem not actually to belong to the current version of the cage.
- The parts are basically not protected at all during transport. Most parts are loosely put in one of 5 cartoons, just protected inside thin plastic bags to avoid them rubbing on each other. So paint damage is almost guaranteed as the bags are probably torn immediately when loaded on the truck. Some parts were bent, some parts were broken, some parts were missing. However, everything was eventually functional.
- The cable pulleys are running with a lot of resistance compared to commercial solutions. That makes the eccentric part of an exercise too easy to have the effect you might be looking for.

But there are of course good sides of this cage:
- The smith machine moves quite easily without adding any resistance. Please note that the bar moves in a 90 degree angle to the ground unlike most smith machines that usually run in a slightly smaller angle.
- The cage is very versatile with smith machine, cables, land mine.
- Customer service is trying to rectify any problems with the product and eventually sent all parts that were missing or broken; small downside is that, probably based on where the customer service is located, communication took usually 24 hours for a series of requests and answers, so it took about 3 days until we could agree on what the correct parts were that I needed.
- The cage is a good value for the price.

All in all, if this product would include "real" instructions with actual useful tips and if it were better protected during transport, this could get 5 stars.

With a 17mm ratchet wrench it took me by myself about 5 hours to put this together - up to the point where I was missing parts... If you want to do the job only with the included tools, you better plan with additional 3 hours. So you might want to spend the $20 for a wrench.

Our Major Lutie smith machine has been amazing so far, apart from the fact that we're missing a piece to use the actual smith bar. Regardless, the company has been so easy to work with, responds fast, and have no complaints while remedying the situation. 10/10 for customer service.

As for the product, it's very fun to put together. I'd suggest watching the video that's online as it's a little easier to follow than the paper directions provided. It's built well and hardy, I have no complaints thus far. I love all the attachments that are provided and the fact that it also includes a cable system. It's the perfect all-in-one machine!

This product is an amazing value. My wife and I just bought this to replace a simple squat rack from another manufacturer, and this is definitely more well-made and designed. It is incredibly sturdy. The parts all have a nice, durable powder coat and assembly is made easy by the way the product is packaged. There are no rattles or wobbling during any exercises, regardless of weight.

I will say that assembly pretty much requires two people, but only for a few specific steps. In the rare event that you have to reach out to Major Lutie's customer service, they are very responsive and helpful.

Stellar product for the price!

Overall this is a great machine and an excellent buy.

Pros:
-Great quality
-Thoughtfully designed and engineered
-Not difficult to assemble (when using the instructions in combination with the 3d assembly video on Youtube)
-Extremely versatile (I can do 90% of the exercises I typically do in the gym)
-Arrived quickly and without damage

Cons:
-Smith machine moves up and down very well but one of the pulleys seems to have a little more friction than the other. Not enough to throw off the balance too much, but noticeable.
-Lack of available attachments: (I've had to buy Jammer arms, leg press attachment, etc. from other brands ).
-Questionable quality with a few of the pulldown accessories

The cons are annoying (and may change by the time you read this review) but do not negate the value of this machine.

For the price, this is a great buy.

First, this specific product comes in 4 separate boxes PLUS a box carrying the bench, so 5 total. I bought this for my son for Christmas and we decided not to put it together until after the holidays(he opened a box with weight plates and a pic of the machine). At the time that I ordered it, I wasn't aware of how many boxes to look for. The first delivery came and the drivers pulled out two very large and heavy boxes and dropped them off in our shop. This was the first delivery and I asked them if they were sure this was all. They assured me. The next day we got a third box and a couple days later, the bench. Being that it was a gift, we covered them all up immediately because our son frequents the shop.

When it was time to put together we realized we were missing the 4th box. Each box is labeled 1/4,2/4,3/4,4/4. If we hadn't covered them up immediately, we would have noticed the error sooner. After some digging, it seems FedEx showed they delivered 3 boxes the first day that I asked if they were certain that was all. Ironically they even included a picture with 2 of the boxes, but NO picture of delivery for the third one. The last box and bench both showed delivered with pictures as well.

I contacted Major Lutie and they responded immediately!! After explaining the situation they prepared the 4th box I was missing and overnighted it. We received it the next night and put it together with no problems.

Allen with Major Lutie was incredibly responsive. He sent several notices of what was happening on their end with the shipment and made sure I was taken care of without question. The machine itself is pretty simple to assemble(my husband and I worked together) and it's a very solid machine.
