A caffeine-fueled frenzy--from a coffee snob. UPDATE.
hotdog12✓ Verified Purchase•February 1, 2017
I've spent a lifetime shopping for different coffees and coffee-makers, even grinding my own beans while trying to feed my caffeine addiction. But the Nespresso Inissia takes it to a new level.
The variety of tasty and convenient coffee pods are a big plus, of course, but the ease and speed of cranking out my favorite brew makes the Inissia a winner. Fill the tank, drop in a pod, press a button. 20 seconds for warmup plus about 30 seconds brew time and you have a perfect shot o' Joe.
They include a variety pack of 16 pods to get you going. A couple were rough enough to take enamel off my teeth and a couple had screwy flavors, but most were very tasty. NOTE: be sure to keep the "Coffee Menu" booklet nearby to figure out the coffee selection. Mark your favorites as you go or you'll get swamped.
The Inissia is solidly engineered with a surprisingly small footprint. Picking it up makes you realize this sucker is made from heavy gauge steel housed in an attractive plastic skin. The steel handle/bale and rugged plastic parts look like they will last for years.
Downsides:
1. The instructions are a confusing non-text mess with sketches and arrows and oddball "directions" that make Ikea instructions look easy. I've got an engineering background and I didn't even attempt to puzzle this out; the graphic artist should be shot. I suggest viewing the slick You Tube videos.
2. I don't think the Nespresso pods are very cost-effective or environmentally-friendly (though darn tasty--I use them 50% of the time). I invested in several Sealpod Stainless Steel Refillable Pods that I load with my favorite Espresso Marco Polo. They work great.
3. The Inissia is pretty noisy when brewing. It doesn't bother me, but it might disturb someone sleeping nearby.
Despite these minor quibbles, the Nespresso Inissia earns a solid five stars. If I ever have a problem, I'll update this review immediately.
UPDATE: The "double-tap" technique works! I read the review by another poster and verified you can push one button twice and walk away, allowing the Inissia to heat up, then brew the coffee in your absence. Big ups for discovering this undocumented feature!

Best espresso I've ever had, in minutes, at home. LOVE this machine!!!

Put off buying a Keurig type machine for years because it didn't seem their coffee was that much better than what I could make for the money.
Went out of the country and was staying in a 5 star hotel where they had this little miracle machine in the room with some of the coffee capsules. We were at a retreat where sometimes we had to meet at the beach at 6 a.m. It was so fantastic to be able to make the most incredible, luxurious, espresso I've ever had in my life (and I've had a lot of bad espresso). It takes very little time and is super easy to use. There are fantastic "how to" videos about the machine on youtube that I checked out when it arrived. It's small, sleek and makes seriously incredibly fantastic espresso and lungo (which is a larger version of espresso). Loved that the amazon price was like $90 less than anywhere else online too! The vendor I purchaesd it from sent the wrong color by mistake but we were able to send the original back unopened and they sent a replacement out immediately. Absolutely recommended item if you love coffee and want a special treat at home.

Wonderful Espresso, Exceptional Customer Service, and Unfortunately.. a Frequent Need To Call Them
Anc96•August 18, 2016
I would love to give this 5 stars or more. I love the convenience and LOVE the espresso. But what I don't love are the problems I've had with it starting about 2.5 months after I received it. It lost a couple of stars for that... but I gave one back because of the extremely competent, easy and friendly customer service. Then it lost a star again because of their bad warranty policy.
After 2.5 months the lights wouldn't stop on the steady blinking mode, which indicates it's ready for brewing. At first I simply had to unplug it and plug it in again, and I could get it to brew. But then it got more difficult to get it to brew. Being lazy, I procrastinated calling customer service because I could still get it to brew. It was finally time to call was when my capsules started literally exploding when I opened the machine. It was actually dangerous.
Customer service was wonderful. They did try troubleshooting without success, then sent me a loaner machine (which came the next day), and I just packed up my machine in the packaging and attached the prepaid return label and returned my machine for service. About a week later, I received my machine back in perfect working condition.
Here it is 2 months later and my machine is action up again. It's now leaking. I did all the trouble shooting with customer service with no luck. She decided I needed to descale (which had been done a few months ago when troubleshooting the other problem) and sent me a couple of descaling kits, no charge. I received them in 2 days, went on youtube and carefully followed Nespresso's instructional video on descaling, but it was still leaking. So again, I called customer service, and they are sending me a new machine, over-nighting it.
So, fantastic customer service.. and when it's working correctly, the machine makes really great espresso. But the problems have me worried. I've read many negative reviews about the machine failing. And although I'm getting a new machine, the new machine's warranty will only be for the remainder of my original machine's warranty, so about 7 months. After that I only get free trouble shooting. I think this is unfair. The warranty should be on the current machine. If, in several months, this machine fails enough to send me another new one, that new one could end up with only weeks worth of warranty? This makes me feel like their machine isn't made to last out a full year. Something to think about.
Before I purchased the machine I read many reviews on it. Form the problems I've read about, most had been with the frother malfunctioning. For that I am sure to unplug the frother, and take it off the base when not in use. And, for the machine, I also unplug it after every use, and I'm sure to eject the capsule to avoid any residue buildup. So I don't think I can do anything more for the care of the machine.
I just hope I don't have problems with the new machine. When reading reviews, be sure to read ones based on the people who have had the machine for a while and not those who just purchased it.
UPDATE 11/08/2016
My nespresso machine is leaking again. It's only leaking a little bit. I noticed it because I now have to empty out my drip tray every couple of days. When it's not leaking and working properly, I only cleaned it once a week to give it a good wash. There was never any standing liquid in it, but it gets dirty from the drips that comes out the spout after brewing. But now.. another leak. And, my frother has now started to fail. It warms the milk well, but my froth is lacking. It used to froth the whole amount of milk, but now I have warm milk and little froth.
I'm pretty sad because I really do love this machine. It's so convenient and I love the coffee. I am considering investing in a more expensive nespresso machine hoping for better quality, but then I'm worried of wasting my money if the more expensive machine fails too.
I'll be calling nespresso customer service tomorrow.. again. I'm expecting the same exceptional customer service as usual... and I'm sure they'll either fix this machine and frother, or send new ones... but I'd so much rather just have the darn machine work for more than 2 months at a time!
Such a great machine.. I sure hope they find a way to make it more reliable.

great little Nespresso machine

great little Nespresso machine. Keep an eye on price, this went from 109 down to 68 in the span of an afternoon.
Not perfect, but good for a $100 espresso maker.
Harry✓ Verified Purchase•June 3, 2016
Great for a little espresso maker for a little over $100. Here are a few pros and cons:
PROS
1. Compact - The machine is very small and compact. Barely takes up any space on my little kitchen coffee table.
2. Quick - Turns on and heats water very fast. Brews fast, too!
3. Coffee selection - There are a ton of different flavours and brew variations for a perfect cup. The machine comes with the standard small or large brew buttons but also allows you to program your own brew length.
4. Durable - At least on the outside the machine is very well built and seems durable. The feel of the appliance is very solid. The handle is also made of metal. I originally thought it was plastic until it arrived.
CONS
1. Very Loud! - When the machine is brewing, it is extremely loud. So loud that it wakes up my roommate when I go to use it. Luckily it brews quickly.
2. Water reservoir - The water reservoir is a bit small and needs to be refilled very often, especially if you brew long cups of espresso like me.
3. Colour coded pods - The pods are all different flavours and the colour of the pods references what flavour and/or how long you should brew it. The colours are all very similar and it's hard to memorize the Italian names of all of them. Luckily the machine comes with a 'coffee menu' which tells you which pod colour is which.
Hope this is helpful!
