Hubitat C-8... Outstanding Z-wave/Zigbee Hub
nesnet✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 7, 2023
Hubitat, IMO, makes the best HA hub currently available.

With the addition of external antennas they have significantly increased range (and reduced hops), not to mention implementing the latest hardware for Z-wave and Zigbee. The platform has improved... again.

I have experienced zero problems since receiving it, and it does what I paid for... works flawlessly (with increased house penetration).

There are a few complaints from others that the "dashboard" (UI) is rudimentary, and needs attention. While I partially agree with those observations, it is not a deal killer. The hardware is 100%, and that's the crucial data-point for me. Reliability is the key.

The price is competitive (or better) than the competition, and the platform uses the latest technology. They update the software frequently. Hubitat is responsive to their users. What's not to like? Another outstanding iteration. Highly recommend the C-8.
Great Hub

After years with Smarthings, we made the tough call to jump to Hubitat, timely with the launch of the C8. Spent a full week setting up the system and all our devices, modes and automations. No question, it is a steep curve but looking back, well worth the move. All our z-wave and zigbee devices paired first time, and those that didn't were due to issues with the device rather than the Hub itself,. We made a point of following the HE list of compatible devices and there is a thriving Hubitat community, library of videos and articles covering all aspects of the platform..

Hub itself is tiny. Although it can pair wirelessly with a WIFI router, we linked it with the included ethernet cable. First thing we did was reserved DCHP and set it on its own WIFI channel, something highly recommended, especially as we had a mix of z-wave and zigbee devices.

Since set up, Hub has been rock solid. The UI is poor and needs work, but meantime with a bit of effort can be customised to make it half usable. The key is the infinite flexibility of the system.

Overall, this is an amazing bit of tech, not for the average homeowner but highly recommended for those avidly interested in home automation. Not cheap, but worth every penny,
Smartthings to Hubitat: A Game-Changer in Home Automation!
Chris Menez✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 21, 2023
As someone who has been using Samsung Smartthings for 6 years, I must say that transitioning to Hubitat has been a game-changer for me. It feels like I have entered into the future of home automation! The ability to execute everything locally is simply astounding.

The hub is an impressive tiny device offering advanced automation capabilities without the need for Webcore. The built-in "Rule Machine" allows for a smooth and effortless user experience once you get familiar with it. A huge setback would be that there can be a huge learning curve if you are new to home automation. You can however use the community forum to learn or go on YouTube.

Another big concern is the user interface as it may not be the most intuitive or user-friendly, but it's not a significant issue once you've set everything up. I'm confident that the developers are actively working on improving the UI, but for now, it's a minor concern that doesn't detract from the overall functionality of the platform. To me, Hubitat's local execution alone is worth the upgrade as it ensures an instant and smooth experience. I'm truly impressed by how much faster my lights, garage, and other smart devices operate now.

In my opinion, one of the most notable advantages of Hubitat is its ability to seamlessly integrate with Siri shortcuts. By utilizing the "Cloud endpoint" feature of Hubitat Rule Machine, my family and friends can now open the garage simply by issuing a voice command through Siri. This was previously impossible with SmartThings, as Webcore was removed, and even when it was available, the process was slow and unreliable on their platform. By leveraging Shortcuts, I can share garage door access without granting full access to all my devices on HomeKit.

Furthermore, apart from using the Shortcut app on my iPhone, I have also set up a Virtual Shade device in Hubitat and integrated it with the HomeKit app. Since HomeKit doesn't support native Garage Door functionality, I created a virtual device that mirrors the actual garage door. (For this you will need the "Hubitat Package Manager" App and then install "Switch Bindings" by @joelwetzel) This enables me to open the garage using my voice and send commands through Apple TV, Macbook, and the iPhone Home app. If anyone is interested, I have included pictures of my settings for reference. They have proven to be quite impressive!

I am a novice with this tech,
hvowever I was quickly able to set it up.
Received version with internal antenna. Works alright. UI takes a little getting to.

Believe I receive the older version as it did not come with antennas or have connectors for antennas. The UI/UX is a bit strange and takes some getting used to. However device pair and work flawlessly with most automation being able to be triggered locally.
